Sam's on base when the television splashes the news: Wreckage of Oceanic Flight 815 found in Sunda Trench. He escapes to his office and shuts the door. He can still hear her “Daddy,” the last time he'd seen her. This wasn't ever how he'd thought it would end.
Two months later, and he's somewhere in the middle of the Iraqi desert. One of the kids he's commanding has a package from home. “Sir. Thought you might like to see this,” he says, holding out a hometown newspaper. “Wasn't your daughter...”
The headline is one word: Rescued.
