in which I write every day for a month

Nov 30, 2008 17:35

I committed to writing (at least) 100 words per day, for each day of November, at mini_nanowrimo. With as little as I've been able to write these past few months, 100 words per day seemed quite daunting enough. I didn't tell anyone I was doing this because I wasn't sure that I'd meet my goal of writing daily. In fact, I was pretty sure I wouldn't.

However, I'm proud to say that I accomplished my goal, and most days went over my 100-word commitment! I thought writing each day would be a chore, but for the most part I enjoyed taking time (usually at the end of the day, I admit) away from real life to write a little each day. The days I wasn't at the computer I wrote longhand in my notebook. Daily writing actually helped me cope during what was otherwise a pretty crappy month, real-life-wise.

Behind the cut are my word counts for each day, as well as exactly what I was working on. Some of the writings for this project have already been posted, some have gone the way of the WIP folder of doom, and some I'll be posting soonish. All will be linked in this post, as well.

Day 1: 112 words. Started a bit of a Kate/Sun Lost fic, that has since been thrown into the WIP folder of dooooooom. :/
Day 2: 275 words. Started a BSG Adama/Roslin fic. I was really excited about writing this one. My first ever attempt at writing BSG.
Day 3: 181 words. Continuing the Adama/Roslin.
Day 4: 113 words. Continuing the Adama/Roslin. This was election day, so I barely eked out my daily goal after being overly emotional and wrapped up in Obama's win/victory speech. But I did it. (Yes we can, eh?)
Day 5: 184 words. Still continuing the Adama/Roslin. I'd hoped to have it done before this, but I felt like I was losing steam here.
Day 6: 241 words. Continuing the Adama/Roslin. I would have written more, but got distracted by watching A/R vids on youtube for inspiration. Oops. I did finally come up with the title on this day, though.
Day 7: 238 words. Finished the Adama/Roslin! Was too tired to edit, though.
Day 8: 117 words. Quite a depressing US Office Jim-drabble. I also edited and posted the Adama/Roslin: Until the Morning.
Day 9: 119 words. Added to the Jim-drabble, officially making it a Jim-and-Pam double-drabble. But not sure if I like the addition at all.
Day 10: 331 words. More additions to the Jim/Pam thing. This one I like better than Day 9's. We'll see how it all fits together in the end.
Day 11: 426 words. Edited out the 119 words from day 9, but these 426 were new. For the Jim thing again. Have the beginning and the ending, now just to find the middle...
Day 12: 357 words. Finished the Jim thing! Edited and posted it, too: The Distance from Here.
Day 13: 276 words. Started another BSG fic. Laura-centric (because she rocks). This has also gone the way of the WIP folder of doom :/
Day 14: 114 words. Started kind of a bridge from The Distance from Here to the latest Office episode. Pam-centric, this time. This day I officially surpassed my month-long goal of 3,000 words (or 100x30)! Woot.
Day 15: 173 words. Halfway through the month, still meeting my daily goals! Continued the Pam thing. Still trying to make it fit.
Day 16: 106 words. Lowest word count yet, and I almost didn't make it. Hard-fought words, those were. Still on the Pam thing.
Day 17: 101 words. Ack. Nowhere to go but up, I suppose. Slump is probably quite indicative of my mental state.
Day 18: 211 words. This felt better. Writing Pam, still; almost finished with it, finally.
Day 19: 196 words. Finished the Pam piece! No time or energy to edit and post, however.
Day 20: 107 words. Started a BSG fic; Kara-centric, (mostly) non-shippy, based off of Revelations and, very loosely, of a couple small scenes in the older season 4.5 promo.
Day 21: 121 words. Continued the Kara fic. Also finally edited and posted the Pam piece: One Hundred Twenty-Two Miles.
Day 22: 123 words. Still on the Kara fic. It's a struggle, this one, but I really want to write it.
Day 23: 109 words. More attempts to get the Kara fic to cooperate. One week left in the month; at least so far I have yet to miss a day.
Day 24: 107 words. Can't seem to get out of this slump. Granted, my commitment was only 100 words per day, but I'd rather be able to write more. Still on the Kara thing.
Day 25: 129 words. Continued the Kara fic. It's kind of dark. And moving slowly. Argh.
Day 26: 109 words. Almost finished (finally) with the Kara fic.
Day 27: 107 words. Happy Thanksgiving to me - finished the Kara fic! It's going to need quite a bit of editing before I can post it, though.
Day 28: 187 words. Started a fic, but not giving any details as it's a Christmas present for a friend.
Day 29: 201 words. More on the Christmas fic. Edited most of the Kara fic, too.
Day 30: 173 words. Again with the Christmas fic. And November is done! I made it! Also finished editing the Kara fic and posted it: With Ash In Your Mouth (you'll ask it to burn again).

November's total word count (not including later editing): 5,344
