Bill will catch her

Hey guys, we’re trying to get back to our normal modding routine, but unfortunately work, dentists, holidays and visiting relatives are causing a few hiccups!

Nix apologises for not following up on our reading club fic earlier, and has allowed me to make it the focus of this week’s discussion post.

The fic is set during LDYB2 and we did cover a few of the fic's ideas in that shipwatch. However, there are a couple of other themes in the fic I thought we could discuss.

The first is the idea that Laura can be a separate identity to the President:

But Laura hardly ever got what she wanted, steam-rolled over by her own mind - by the President. and Gravity and guilt plucked at her until she stood to face him - like a child before the principal, or on the rare occasions, her before a principle.

Do you think Laura and the President can truly be separate identities? What differences do you perceive between Laura and the President?

We see quite a small time on screen of Laura without the presidency, even though in the canon timeline she is just plain Laura for twelve months. Do you think she ever truly relaxed into 'Laura' on New Caprica?

How much different do you think Laura would have acted if she had never been the President from the beginning of their journey?

What about her relationship with Bill? How would that have been different?

The other idea I liked in the fic was that Laura realised that Bill thinks he knows her and how she’ll act in certain situations. Convinced of the fact that he knew her better than she knew herself - and it ran through her, harsh and irritating. You don’t know-

Do you think, at this stage, Bill does in fact know Laura better than, or as well as, she knows herself?

Does he come to know her better by Daybreak, or does she always hide a part of herself away?

Anything else in general you'd like to bring up about the fic?
