Guest Post: Henchgirl's awesome new Two-Face RPG, featuring EVERYBODY

Nov 12, 2012 20:01

So some time back, I was toying with the idea of doing a "Choose Your Own Adventure" story with Two-Face where you could flip a coin to decide where to go. I came up will all sorts of scenarios involving a full cast of rogues and supporting characters, and I even had visions of publishing it and including a coin ( Read more... )

Whoa - this looks pretty awesome! Is it going to be an online sort of thing, or a download - and if the latter, will it work on Macs?
Also, uh... crap, I am so behind on these things. Who are Captain, Al and Techie?

Not sure, although I imagine a download would have to be the way to go, considering how huge this is going to be. I don't know if the game will be playable for Macs, but since I'm a Mac owner myself, I certainly hope it will be!

Heh, those three are the stars of Henchgirl and Captain's epic and long-running fanfic series, the CATverse, about three ne'er-do-well henchgirls of the Scarecrow. :)

Ah - that would explain it. I thought it was yet another pop cultural reference that I wasn't getting.
Anyway, I look forward to seeing the finished product. Question - is this being done in some 'make your own RPG' sort of program, or does Henchgirl have some computer programming skills that she's putting to work? If the former, maybe I can try my hand at it one of these days - I actually did try to write a 'Choose Your Own Adventure' book once, though it kinda fizzled out.

Now I kinda want to see Mr. Nice, the Perfessor and Mastermind there, too.

In Arkham? What would they be doing there? (I mean, yeah, that would be awesome, but still - bit difficult to fit 'em in, I'd think.)

I figure the plot will eventually move out of the asylum, right? With 'there', I meant the game in general.

Fair enough. I just meant that in Arkham it makes sense for Harvey to run into Bat-villains willy-nilly; outside of it, it's a bit of a crapshoot, so the more likely the villains in question are to be in Arkham, the more likely, it would seem to me, they'll be in the game.

Only the opening is in Arkham. The rest is spread across all of Gotham, sooooo... ;)

Then you might just be pleased when you play the game... depending on which storyline you end up following. ;)

I forgot to respond to this one!

Yes, she's using a program for this! It's called RPG Maker VX Ace. It was a bit of a splurge for us, but it's a very versatile and powerful program! Looks like it may not be non-Mac accessible, though, as it seems to be for Windows only. Bah.

Drat. Oh well, probably for the best - I've got more than enough projects on my plate these days. Still, maybe I could find a collaborator with the right - *slaps self* No! Bad head! Bad! Stop dreaming up distractions! You need to focus! Focus!
...It would be nice, though... Dammit.

By the way, I just encountered this - have you seen it?

I'm not sure what 'The Hillywood Show' is, but personally, I think this is pretty darn impressive. If nothing else, they do a pretty good job convincing me that Harley Quinn would totally have worked in Dark Knight.
As always, counting on you to un-gray this.
Incidentally, did you see the last video I posted a link to? You never got back to me about it.

Sorry for taking so long to notice and ungray this! It got lost in the shuffle of new comments over at the movie review and a torrent of comments from a particularly tenacious spambot. I imagine that's why I didn't respond to the other video. Which one was that?

Still not a big fan of TDK tribute videos, but as far as they go, this one's not bad at all! At the very least, I'm glad they went for a slightly-tweaked version from the show/comics rather than one of the hideous Ledger-style fan art photo manips I've seen. I'm glad that meme has started to die out, although it's seemingly been replaced by the Harleys from the Arkham games in the favor of cosplayers and fan art. Oh well.

It was posted in one of your recent B:tAS reviews - not the most recent one, the one before, I believe. It should be down near the bottom of the comments, if not the very bottom. Interestingly enough, it also involves Lady Gaga - it seems that Batman/Lady Gaga videos are becoming a sort of weird subgenre all of their own.
What I liked about it was that it wasn't so much a direct homage/parody of TDK as riffing off its themes and characters. For a character who is theoretically themed around a wild card, we haven't seen all that much of Joker in connection with card games over the years, and I've never, to my recollection, seen him playing cards with Batman - I thought that was a nice touch. (And really, he should be played by girls in drag more often - it's... weird, but it works somehow.) Also, I thought you might appreciate the version of Two-Face they did - it's not often that you see him with a blind left eye, but they seem to have included that detail.

Damn. For the life of me, I can't find it! You said it's the one before the most recent one? That would put it at the review for "Trial," but I see no such link there, nor have I been able to find it at any of the "Harvey and Pals" reviews!

... and I've never, to my recollection, seen him playing cards with Batman...

Nor I! The closest we've come is the game of solitaire with Impostor!Joker in The Killing Joke, although I wouldn't be surprised if that didn't influence this a bit in some way.

Huh - weird. I can't find it either. Maybe it got accidentally deleted as spam. Should I hunt it up again and re-post the link?
