Ron apparated into Diagon Alley, and headed for the door to the Leaky Cauldron. He checked his pockets for the tickets to the show, and the wad of Muggle money he had converted from galleons. He had decided to go Muggle this evening; he knew Hannah worked with them but wasn't sure if she had ever had a chance to go enjoy some of the nicities they had. He had heard lots in his travels, from both Muggles and wizards alike about musicals and some of the nicer restaurants in town. He could have taken her out of the country, but he felt like he had been away too long. He also wanted to make her feel comfortable, as they built their friendship and he was worried a gesture like that might be construed as coming on too strong. If he took her walking on the beach or eatting in a bistro in Paris, it might send the wrong message to this slightly reserved woman

So as not to seem rude, Hannah had ordered a fizzy water since she wasn't sure how long it would take Ron to arrive. While the bar keep prepared her a glass she thought about how long it had been since she'd had a real date. That, of course, took her mind back to Dean. With a quick shake of her head, as if to clear her mind, she thanked the waiter for the glass he placed before her an put a few knuts on the counter. As she enjoyed the first sip, she wondered what the night had in store. Would they simply just enjoy dinner and conversation or had Ron created other plans for the duo? Not that it mattered, she was simply glad to have company for the evening other than a bowl of chips and the telly.
"Of course I'm here," Hannah replied to Ron's greeting. Did he really think she wouldn't show?
He was relieved to see her; she had no idea what he had been through in the morning. He had only been able to imagine that she would promptly blow him off if Dean had shown more interest in her again.
He leaned his back against the bar, surveying the crowd that was there, and turned on his side to look at her. "So, do you want to be surprised or do you want to know? We've better go, if you're finished. This place will not hold our table if we are late."
He flashed a bigger grin at her, happy about the arrangements he had made and sincerely happy to see her.
When Dean had sent her a message asking that they get together, she had wanted nothing more than to jump at the offer. Yet, she had these plans with Ron which she knew she couldn't back out of. Not because Ron held any kind of hold over her, but simply because her mother had taught her to always honor her committments. Not only that, but this evening with Ron gave her a chance to see if Dean had been serious about getting to know her and was willing to fight for her attentions.
She looked down at the small Wizarding purse she had with her and simply asked one question. "Are you taking me to a Muggle or Wizarding establishment?" The answer would determine whether or not she needed to tranfigure the purse into something more mainstream Muggle.
Ron was pleased at the presentation of the meal, and after they paused to appraise the dishes, they both began. "I've always wanted to travel to the States as well," he said conversationally, "Hannah, you are part muggle, correct?"
He waited for her confirmation and continued, "Were you raised more as a Muggle or as a witch? Was it a complete shock for you when you came to Hogwarts? I just wondered about the transition: is it easier for a Muggle to come into the Wizarding world then a Wizard to come into the Muggle world? Now mind you, I mean entering the world with all attributes..so if you are a Muggle, now you can do magic..and if you are the Wizard, no magic for you at all."
Hannah took a small bite of her entree while Ron went on about Muggle vs Wizard. "Yes, I'm half Muggle," she replied before he got into the meat of his question. Or rather she thought he was asking a question.
While he spoke, she continued to pick at the food on her plate. "My parents shielded me from Magic until I was eight. Pop wanted me to appreciate both worlds and Mum agreed. Mum refrained from using magic around me until then. I didn't really learn about things like floo powder, owls, wands and Hogwarts until I was ten."
When she'd first found out about the magic, Hannah had been very upset that they had hid it from her. After Jillian's death and her subsequent laying low she was very glad she'd learned how to be a Muggle first as it made it easier to leave the magic behind for awhile.
Ron chewed his food; it wasn't half bad. He noted that she was eating with delicate small bites, and he smiled at her polite manners. If anything, this girl was more reserved then he released. Every question was given a thoughtful answer; she didn't rush into her responses. He wondered if she ever joked around or cut loose at all. She was intriguing; he wanted to hear what she thought. He was curious about her life as a child

The date was coming along a bit slower than any evening with Dean had gone. Partly because she was a bit nervous and partly because deep down she felt as if sitting here with Ron was the first step in closing the door that led to Dean. Normally she was a bit looser and talkative. Then again, she hadn't really gotten a chance to know Ron the way she had Dean
