Hello again...quick question. Did anyone go on birth control after their abortion (I'm sure that's a yes!)? How long did you wait following the procedure for your first period? My papers state that it takes 4-6 weeks. Will starting birth control after the procedure delay it even more? I didn't begin my BC until the Sunday after my follow-up. ( Read more... )

I know this is probably not the appropriate place for this, but I wanted to add a quick question in a comment. I'm not LJ savvy and I'd like to avoid joining the community just to post, and then having to leave out of fear that my nosey LJ friends will lurk around my user info. and find me here. Just thought I'd inquire...thanks again.

You must be a member of a community to make a lead post in it, but at least for now, non-members can still comment here. So you do have to join this community to post in it, but you can make comments without joining.

Unfortunately, you cannot hide the communities to which you belong on your userinfo, so if you're really afraid of nosy people poking around in your list of communities and finding out that you're interested in this subject, you'll have to leave the community. Then again, any LJ friends who would have a problem with you being in abortioninfo are probably not very good friends.

Completely support your last sentence...I just wish the circumstances were different.

If any of your LJ friends give you shit about it, send 'em my way and I'll rip their virtual heads off.

you could make your posts in here friends only. if your friends ask why you are in here, just say you find it interesting.

To answer the posters question...

I started my birth control right after I had the procedure. Have you taken the sugar pills yet? Cause that will trigger the period. it will take a few days for the horomones to "run out" inside your body, and then you start your period. In my case, I start my sugar pills on a sunday, and every tuesday morning, I start bleeding.

If you started after your followup, which is 2-3 weeks after the procedure, it will take another 4 weeks for your period to "activate" cause the horomones are preventing the lining from shedding. Wait til yo get on the sugar pills, then expect your period during that time. If it doesn't happen, contact your doctor. You may need a prescription change.

Thanks for the response. :) After what I went through, paranoia (did I spell that right?) has really gotten the best of me. I got to my first sugar pill on Sunday. I had extremely faint bleeding Saturday night, hardly existent, only visible on toilet paper. Monday I was able to say it had fully started...thanks again.

Starting birth control CAN delay your period, or even STOP your period altogether. It depends on the type of pill (there's like 50 different kinds) and your system. If you tell me which kind you're on I could see what I can find about that brand.

If your period is delayed - Having a delayed period is not to my knowledge at all dangerous. The only worry would be if you are actually pregnant again.

I guess having not seen my period since January 30th was really getting to me...I have been anticipating it ever since my very first missed period, so I was overly anxious. Thanks to you, too, and everyone above, for responding. For any future posts, I'll just remain a member of the community and make my posts friends only. I won't let nosiness get the best of me, and creating another journal would be a great idea but I won't let them cause me to do that. :-D
