Shorts
1. Not that I'm wearing them, just I can't be bothered to write proper like wot i usually do. This is despite having worn shorts all last week; yesterday and today I've been in long trousers. Teaching in shorts would just feel weird (though I did go to Sunday church in shorts for the first time 8 days ago and that felt fine... weekday services are a different beast and I lost my weekday-church-shorts-wearing-viriginity many moons ago).
2. Started teaching today; they seem like a nice bunch, nicely vociferous. Two of my former students have come back for more, so I must be doing something right.
3. I have finally ordered a copy of Kunen. (For a mere $84, I don't know where this new stash they're selling on Amazon has come from, but it's certainly welcome.)
4. I've got a Reel Video card. So far I've used it to watch Ian MacKellan's Richard III (v. good) and Basketball diaries (also v. good).
5. While we're on the subject of movies, watched an old Hop-a-long Cassidy B-movie last week at church (not during the service!). It was surprisingly enjoyable, but that might just be because I'm doing a kind of "Coo! Horses!" thing at the moment that I'll soon get bored of. Might see if Reel have any more though.
6. FInally started a new knitting project too: a "phone sock" for my sister's birthday present.
7. Also, have another knitting project in mind for next: a scarf for my other sister. She wants "kiss" X's on it. Question: what should these look like? Should they look like be-Serif-ed X's, with lit horizontal ligaments on the tops and bottoms? Or one leg curvy and the other straight, like a chi? Or just a plane X?
8. I've been impressed by the interest in the World Cup round here. Sure, it's way below European levels, but it's higher than I thought it might be. It's slightly amusing hearing the American commentators talk about "soccer" using American sports terminology. It's only listening to this that's reinforced to me how different British and American sport/sports terminology is (and how it goes beyond different sports being popular).
[Edited to add in some semi-colons; they make me look more intelligent. That, and if you replace my first one with a comma, the meaning gets confused.]
