weekend update

Kingdom of Heaven is one of my favorite movies! If you haven't managed to get to the theaters to see it, make a point to go this weekend. It is entirely worth it. As Roger Ebert's review pointed out (I'm paraphrasing), it's not just the cinematography or the plot or the acting in the film, it's the way all those things combine at the exact right moment to produce... an extraordinary film! The casting is actually not all that unbelievable, and I didn't remember until Smike pointed it out in Beavis' journal that Orlando Bloom was a blacksmith in Pirates of the Caribbean also (haha). For me, personally, the absolute best scene in the movie is not the end battle, it is a face-off between the two "sides" near the end of the movie where the two kings meet between their respective forces to offer terms. It's well-scripted and beautifully filmed, and I am not ashamed to say that I shed more than a few tears while watching. I have to admit that I was fearful that this would be more of a narrow-minded film; but there is nothing to fear - this is a work of tolerance and vision, and Ridley Scott is a master.

Near the end of the movie, I started feeling really ill, but I wasn't going to get up and leave. Thus began my night of pain. Luckily, David took care of me really well, and Sunday saw me feeling a little better (and today the pain is completely gone). I had planned to walk in the Y-ME Breast Cancer RACE for the Cure on Sunday, but I didn't go because of this pain in my stomach that kept me up till 2am Sunday. Boo! I had been looking forward to it for a month, and I feel really guilty about not being able to walk on Sunday. Even so, I did manage to raise well over my goal of $250 (I raised over $300!) - thank you to everyone who contributed!!! The money all goes to a fantastic cause, breast cancer research and support of breast cancer patients. I had a close family friend die of breast cancer, so I was going to walk in her memory - but she understands, I'm sure.

So yesterday was a surprise, in that I thought I wouldn't see David again after he dropped me at the train station to spend Saturday in Naperville with Laura (best friend and matron of honor). She was sick too, so she said goodbye to me at the train station around 2:30 and I took another train out to Mt. Prospect to spend the night with David (yay!). We didn't have anything planned, but we did end up going and picking bridesmaid dresses (due to the terrible time Laura and I had looking for "just a green dress" on Saturday), shopping a little at Best Buy, and making up a family budget (we're going to be family - yay!). I realized we will be comfortable for now, and that when we have kids, our salaries better be lots higher! :) hehehe - now I understand why people don't have kids for a while (disposable income rocks).
