The world seems hell-bent on preventing me from doing things lately. The whole debacle I had with the HR lady for the library position I was interviewing about got to the point where, by the time she managed to schedule and actually uphold a phone interview time with me, the head HR person was already doing in-person interviews, so I never even had a change to make the cut.
So, then there's this amazing curatorial assistant volunteer position I posted about. The way that came about is that my school program offers practicum opportunities, but they always have about twice as many projects available as the number of students they allow to register for the practicum. After the students select the projects they want to take on, some of the remaining opportunities are offered as volunteer gigs, basically on a first-come, first-serve basis.
So, the week before last, I indicated interest in this project. On Monday, I got an email saying that it was available and that I could totally have the position (yay!) - the organizer person asked me to confirm which email address was my primary one so she could send an email of introduction to me and the person that would be my supervisor. I responded the same day.
I didn't get any email. I waited a few days, because I figured she had other actual job duties and stuff, but emailed her on Friday mentioning that I hadn't heard anything, ad asking if she was waiting on anything from me.
She emailed me back almost immediately: apparently she had sent out an email on the Monday, and for some reason I didn't get it - she copied into her response to my email and gave me the supervisor's email address, and I emailed him right away with many apologies for the delay. I figured I wouldn't hear back over the weekend, so I wasn't worried until the end of the day today that I hadn't heard back from the guy.
Just now, I got the email that the organizer sent last Monday - it's actually properly date-stamped to May 27th and everything, but it only just showed up in my inbox at about twenty past ten tonight (!?!?!?). The email address for my supervisor is not the one that the organizer gave me, so I had to send *another* apologetic email to his correct address - I really hope I don't come off as a total flake, and that I haven't been fucked out of an awesome opportunity... :(
We shall see.
ETA: I just noticed that the initial email (the one that took a week to show up in my inbox) was sent to two of my email addresses - my primary personal one and the one I primarily use for school stuff. I have no idea why the organizer asked me which email to use if she was going to use both, but since they both funnel into the same inbox, I'm wondering if that's somehow what caused the problem? I have no idea; none of this makes any sense to me.
