I have just spent the last couple of hours chasing a brown bat around my attic; such is the price I pay for having a wooded area less than twenty feet from the back door.
The attic is semi-finished, insulated with foil-covered foam sheeting; the critter came in from behind one of the sheets, out the hole-in-the-wall where we store luggage and proceeded to introduce himself.
"HELLO! I'M A BAT, AND I'LL FLY AROUND THE ROOM AND MAKE EVERYBODY FREAK OUT!!!!"
We tried to herd him with a broom and a wet towel (and heavy gloves!), but he was a quick little bugger (actually, he was pretty big, with a body about 4 inches long and a wingspan of about a foot.); at the moment, he appears to have escaped through a gep in the insulation in one of the dormers, which is a Good Thing, because he'll be able to find his way back outside, and for all I know, that's how he got in to begin with.
Bats are Profoundly Cool when they're outside doing bat-things, but when they come inside they're a major annoyance.
