My Muse Is Pissed!

I have not posted in quite a while. I haven't felt the urge. Until now, I have been moved by such an outrageous claim I cannot remain silent. I must warn others. Ann Byrn, author of the Cake Doctor is a false messiah, a dangerous dangerous woman.

Bryn claims in her book that you can take a cake mix, add one or two extra ingredients, and produce a cake that no one would ever guess came from a mix. Well, today is my husband's birthday, of which I was not so gently reminded this morning. So I set off to make a cake, but I didn't feel like going out and buying ingredients. I also didn't feel like going out to the bakery and just getting a damned cake. I looked in my cupboards and pulled out an old devils food cake mix (I swear on my mother's grave that I only use it for school bake sales), and finally (first time ever) looked at the Cake Doctor, a Christmas gift from my sister-in-law.

Bryn's basic argument boils down to adding two teaspoons of vanilla extract to the mix, and replacing the oil and water called for on the box with a stick of butter and 1 cup whole milk. I followed the instructions to a T.

And I got a fucking cake that looks and tastes like it came from a mix. The nerve. There ought to be a law! I want all you politically minded people out there to write their elected officials immediately! And Martha's the one looking at jail. Where is the justice!?
