playerpin [Character name] The Doctor (The Eleventh Doctor, The Oncoming Storm, The Raggedy Doctor, "Him in the bowtie", the Rotmeister, though really, he does just prefer the Doctor.)
[Age] 907, but we all know he's at least 1,000. Time Lords get a little vain when they reach their 900s.
[Canon] Doctor Who
[Point in time taken from canon] After the Christmas Special, "A Christmas Carol".
[Background] Read;
here for the incarnation applied for. For all the others, um… wow, that'll be a lot of reading.
[Personality] The Eleventh Doctor is that scatterbrained professor every single one of us had at one time or another. He almost never makes sense-but when he does, it's important. He rambles, rambles, rambles-no, he's wrong, he smacks his forehead and rambles more and finally realizes he's rambling. Does that stop him?
No.
It's a good thing, though-rambling is how the Doctor finds out and deducts, as he runs through every possible solution or turn that could happen. The bright and quick way he speaks shows how energetic he is, how much he loves solving chaos and the mysteries that crop up in time and space. The Doctor is never more happy then when he's at the center of a hurricane, trying to find his way out of an impossible puzzle. The Doctor boasts about his genius, putting himself above others, mostly humans-unlike his Tenth incarnation, he seems to look at humans with a more critical point of view. He sees the flaws in the human race and shoves them in their faces, trying to get them to come to terms and become better, because he knows the potential is there for all of them to be amazing. He gets easily frustrated when he can't properly say what he tries to, or can't empathize as well as he should, since he's simply much more alien in personality.
The Eleventh Doctor is not in touch with humanity, as much as he wants to be, as much as he tries to be. He is an angel who aspires to be human. His innate alienness even shows in his horrible, horrible sense of social etiquette-after Amy kisses him, he shows up at Rory's stag (bachelor) party and confesses in front of a crowd, blatantly, without need, what happened. ("We need to talk about your fiancée. She tried to kiss me. Tell you what, though, you're a lucky man-she's a great kisser.") On the outside looking in, the Doctor can also be severely manipulative to serve the greater good-he manipulated the life of a bitter old man so he became a different, better person by changing his past and therefore changing the present. At times, the Doctor proves his horrible social skills wrong and becomes very emotional and soft-which usually happens when his companions are in danger or troubled, or if children are involved. His emotions are shown on his tweed sleeve, good or bad. His seriousness is intense, just as is his anger, if someone does something wrong. The Oncoming Storm, indeed; he's so furious when the entirety of Starship UK that he yells at both Amy and Queen Elizabeth X. ("Nobody human has anything to say to me today!")
He can be just as cold as he can be warm and forehead-kissing-ly, even to the point of violence, when he's incredibly frustrated (i.e. striking a Dalek when it won't admit to being a Dalek, throwing his communicator when Angel Bob says they're scaring Amy for fun). Violence for the sake of being violent, however, is never tolerated-he exhibits a dangerous aura when they're involved, telling whoever's in possession of a weapon that violence is not how he handles what he happens upon. The Doctor thinks that a solution can be thought out for most things. Although he knows he's much more intelligent than the people he's around, he implores all of them to "see what rings untrue" and to "examine everything", as he can pick out tiny details that help him easily, and knows he can't do it all himself.
[Abilities] The Doctor can tell how old something is with a simple lick of the tongue-he can figure out the chemical makeup, even, and can read an entire book with a flip through the pages. The Doctor's mind moves incredibly fast; so fast, sometimes, even he can't keep up with his train of thought. He knows the whole of time, and builds powerful pieces of equipment from most things that can be found in a kitchen or junkyard. He's a genius, that'd be the easy way to say it. Even he admits that he can't keep up with his own thoughts because they're all going at rapid-fire.
As an alien, he has two hearts, a more intricate and more powerful cardiovascular system, expanded lungs and a low temperature (about, oh, 59-61°F?) to the touch. He is also telepathic (but he needs to touch whomever he's sharing thoughts with).
[Other important stuff] Uh. Aspirin would kill him? Seriously, just one tablet of aspirin would be absolutely lethal.

[First Person]
Ah, yes! Hello! Nice to meet you. Oh, see you've got a bowtie. Nice bowtie. Bowties are cool. You're the perfect person for the job.
I was wondering if you could help me out for a bit. See, I'm stuck up here in this ratty, tattered old building, on the end of… Jubilee and Randolph, from what I remember, and it looks like I've got no way out. No windows at all. Just one door. Now, you'd think I'd be able to break it down, but no such luck, and I can't find my sonic screwdriver.
What I need you to do, and you'll be fine doing it-find it. It's copper-looking, green at the end. There's a space under the door, it's the only door on the very top floor, and you can just roll it in. I'll get myself out, and we can have a cup of tea later. Sound good?
Right, then. Go, go, go! Oh-and before you go, be careful, I'm sure I saw some sort of thing wandering about. Nothing too scary, saw a few claws and some acid-based saliva, but be sure not to step on any tails. I think that's what got me in this mess in the first place, now that I think about it...
[Third Person]
You've been in Somarium for some time and are out exploring. Choose one (or more) of the following settings: 1) a field full of aggressive scarecrows, 2) the forests of the floating mountain, 3) down by the lake, 4) somewhere in the streets of Somni. Remember to use the setting and the NPCs to your advantage. Have the character interact with the environment, or be reminded of home.
Oh, what a lovely place. The Doctor had no idea where this planet was-if it was a different planet-or what dimension this was-if it was another dimension-but he was quite fascinated with it. Maybe that was the wrong way to go about things, crashed in a new planet slash dimension slash reality and he was completely infatuated with it, but he didn't seem to really mind. No one seemed to give him another thought as he raced around a wide field, a big grin on his face. "Aw, just-beautiful!" he sputtered out in glee, tweed coat twisting this way and that in the wind. I'll have to put this in the TARDIS's banks, I'd like another trip back here, when I've got the time. he thought fondly, picking a piece of weed that was tickling his ankle.
Odd. A prickle started at the back of his neck.
What was this? He stood and turned slowly, and he was sure his hearts cranked up their speed at least two levels. Scarecrows, hobbling towards them.
"Okay, okay!" he called out, fishing into his tweed jacket for his sonic screwdriver. "Not sure what you beasties are, but I'm sure I'll find out." Whipping out the tool, he pointed it at one scarecrow advancing and snapped the screwdriver up to his eyes. His eyes widened and he looked down at the readings, then back at the scarecrow. "No, see, that's impossible, because you can't-"
The Doctor let out a cry as one scarecrow launched towards him. He managed to jump back, stumbling a bit on unsteady feet, making sure to keep a distance between him and the bloodthirsty creature. "What do you need me for? No-what do you need humans for, come on, think!" he muttered to himself, glancing about, keeping the screwdriver on full as he pointed it at each scarecrow in turn. "Fueled by blood or energy, maybe you need maintenance? You all are looking rather patchy."
A growl came from a close by scarecrow.
"Oh, that's on purpose? Camouflage, then, and-oh. Oh, camouflage!" His eyes widened and a smile lit up his face. "Oh, you need human features, that's why you're dressed up like scarecrows, all with the-you look humanoid, but you need skin and hair and... noses. And chins." He jumped again when another swiped at him, this time stumbling back against one who had managed to evade his sight, right behind him.
"Hello."
He ducked, switching the settings on his sonic and pointing it at the closest scarecrow. As it was lit and on fire, flailing around, the Doctor made a break for it, hoping that the nearby village-there had to be one, he saw smoke in the sky-would have some place to think so he could think up a way to make sure those scarecrows didn't attack anyone else nearby.
[Why do you want to play this character in Somarium?] As mentioned below, I played here before, but I didn't quite fit in. I think the Doctor's a better fit for this place.
[Which rule was your favorite and why?] Seems to me that the playercesting rule is a really common one, but I like that rule the best. Mostly because, I mean, in one-on-ones or in private communities, there's such a limited scope of players that sometimes you have to play with your own other characters, but in a large group community like this, there really is no excuse for being antisocial.
[Where did you hear about Somarium?] Iii actually played here before, as Sora from Kingdom Hearts.
[Any questions?] I was wondering if the TARDIS could come along for the ride. The TARDIS, however, is essentially his spaceship. It's … sort of his second half in a way, because it's the only part of his home he has left. It's feasible that her coordinates could only be locked inside of Somarium because it is a dream world and anything can happen in a dream world. Inside the TARDIS, it's massive, and the ship is sort living, but it's not an actual character. It's like a talking car except it doesn't even talk, it telepathically communicates with only the Doctor.
SAMPLE QUESTIONS: OPTIONAL
(Yeah, okay, I didn't really have to do these, but some of them just jumped out at me.)
What do you think of your home world? It's gone now. Everyone's gone, and talking about it won't bring it back, so let's keep it going.
If you could go back home, would you? Why or why not? What? Weren't we just talking about this? No, no, I'm perfectly fine traveling about. The entire universe is my back yard! Who in their right mind would give that up?
What were you doing before now? Well, I was giving the TARDIS a checkup. I need to repair the astronomical flyback, put in a new kratos on the planet randomizer, and I've got to see what's wrong with the zigzag plotter. Oh-and check the oil. Can't forget that.
If you were to describe yourself in one sentence, what would that be? Fantastic. Or, or-genius. -you said to describe myself in one sentence, just because it's one word doesn't mean it's not a sentence.
If someone provoked or attacked you, what would you do? Oh, run away. Absolutely. To the TARDIS, if it was serious.
Someone comes to you to ask for the time. How would you respond? Well, I'd have to make sure I was on the right time, first of all… can't tell you how many times I've been asked that and I replied wrong. Humans have a 24-hour day, Glorfovs have a 89-hour day, Time Lords have a 36-hour day. It's all very complicated.
Would you consider yourself a hero or a villain? Why? Neither is an option as well, but still tell why. Neither. Life is never about light or dark, there are shades of gray, and I am no light or dark. I am most definitely a shade of gray.
Murder. What is your opinion? No. Absolutely not. Never.
The hottest boy/girl in class/workplace just confessed their love to you. How do you respond? Er. Well, I don't-no! They're human, no! I can't, no, ha, no. I'm sure there's someone they're interested in much more than me.
Would you consider yourself a well traveled person? If so, what are some of your favorite places? If not, would you want to travel or is there some place you want to go? Oh, totally. I particularly like Barcelona. Not the city, the planet. Oh! Earth, yes. Biblos is nice if you want to go for a read. On no account, however, should you go to Shada. No account! Even the name sounds shady, why would you want to go there?
You are suddenly told you are the child of an ancient prophecy to save the world. How do you feel? Will you embark on your journey? Or would you rather shove it onto someone else and run away? Explain. Blimey, ancient prophecy... well, if that's the prophecy, I'd say I've got a head start! Saved the world for about the billionth time today. In fact, I'd say that prophecy's a bit late.
