I don't attempt to put myself in others shoes much anymore. Because it more often than not, hurts rather than helps. When I put myself in somebodies shoes I often come to very different conclusions than the person who's shoes I'm occupying, that and it usually hurts my feet. This is due primarily to having a different past, reality has trained me to look for certain things. These things are generally different for every person, as each person has a different past. So, while we may be in another persons shoes, imagining their goals, we'll still come up with very different conclusions.

So, I ask. I ask people what's wrong, how they feel, want they want or etc... Because I get things wrong when i put myself in others shoes. So if I'm refusing to guess its nothing against you, hell it is probably something for you, seeing as I care enough to spend the time to ask. That said it is by far the most reliable approach, when the other person is honest anyway. I will only guess if I have a large repertoire of experience with or of you to draw upon.
