We spent the weekend in Wales to celebrate Hans' birthday. We checked out the capitol city of Cardiff for a few nights and at first we were completely unimpressed. Cardiff seemed rundown and depressed, but we stayed hopeful and had a great time! The first night we went to the Bay area, clearly where a lot of money is being put for the arts, shops and restaurants (we had a great dinner there with a view of the water, very bustling area). In the big plaza in front of the design-spectacular Cardiff Millenium Theater is some impressive public art. We spent a day at Cardiff Castle, the beautiful Bute Park located in the center of the city, and walking for a few hours on Taff trail. The second night we had dinner and cocktails in the center at a spot called HA! HA! We were happily surprised at the vegetarian friendly menus at all restaurants. Later we found a surprisingly hopping and authentic hole in the wall jazz club. This is one of the places in Cardiff where the cool kids definately hang. The following day we met Hans' good friend Steve and his wife Jessica. We took a road trip to the hills to a village called Hay-on-Wye, with a stop to see the ruins of Ilanthony Priory. Saturday night we had an incredible dinner at a fantastic Italian spot in their town of Penarth. The weather was gorgeous- blue skies and hills, very much Tella-Tubby land :)
