Last night I took SP to Culver's for dinner and ice cream. Northside Culver's is a great place to go on V-day in order to see many different flavors of love.
Our little duo,(single mother and daughter) dined in the company of:
A couple who appeared to be in their early seventies and their adult son with Down's Syndrome (probably in his late 20's to 30's). Their son filled their drinks for them and set their table with great care.
A teenage boy, his father, and his very elderly grandmother (or even great grandmother). She was beaming and clutching an azalea wrapped in heart printed cellophane. The grandson reminded her that the plant might not be good for her cat; he suggested an appropriate spot where she could still reach it easily. (side note: very old people are so adorable when they smile...they rank with babies in terms of cuteness points)
Two well-dressed ladies who looked to be in their sixties...they shared a meal and spoke of grandbabies sending valentines from New York, clucked over fast-moving traffic on the beltline, and offered rides to eachother.
Friends....one of whom was disheveled and wearing pajamas...possibly on a pass from the state mental health facility (just up the road) or the central wisconsin center. Her speech was nigh incomprehensible..but her companion nodded and replied in a gentle voice, and they eventually exchanged a few words on friendship and the ice cream they were eating.
This provides a new mental time capsule for me. SP's eyes shone when I told about all of the different loving people who had shared the space with us.
Mr. Fed and I will be together on another day...and I'm glad I didn't miss that moment.
