I was going to respond to the email, but I thought it might be more helpful if I responded where other people could see my comments:
Are you SURE?
Because I looking over the poll numbers, and clearly there are quite a few people who are really enjoying your entries. THEY think you are doing a good job.
We tend to be our own harshest critics.
I've looked back over a couple of your entries and I think you are doing just fine as well.
Will you WIN? Who knows! Sure, there's a lot of great writers in LJ Idol, but here's a non-so-secret, we are in WEEK 6 of a competition that is going to be be going for quite some time. Some of those people are going to fall. Even more to the point - over the years I've seen a LOT of people. Some have been great and full of confidence right out of the gate. THE VAST MAJORITY OF THEM- including almost all the winners - have developed over the course of the competition. They got better by hanging out with other writers and bouncing ideas off of them.
We've also had plenty of people who don't really "do the social thing", including some winners.
I'd hate for you to walk away. If you really want/have to - OK. But I would be remiss if I didn't at least ask if you were *sure*.
