[action/accidental voice] and foward bends his head

[It is a lovely day and Admiral Norrington is sat out on the steps to his apartment building as befits such weather, bent forward as though scrutinizing his own knees. Laid out across his lap is his uniform's coat, ripped during the battle dome debacle. Why has he come outside? The daylight will help his eye to guide the needle. His fingers, ( Read more... )

And what all are we dashing this fine afternoon, Admiral?

The day, this accursed needle, and flying blue demons with sharp claws. Damn them all.

Flying blue....you've been at the Screech again, haven't you. Why don't you find a wench to mend it, Norrington? Then you can settle down with her and have lots of dour babies.

It is well within my own power, thank you kindly.

[It was too much to hope that Jack might have been eaten by a dragon.]

You know, mate---when I had to mend my coat on the last All Hallows' Eve, I made an announcement and the wenches came flocking to mend it for me. Why do that work if you don't HAVE to?

[All men on the sea had to learn to mend their own clothing, but it was a luxury to have a woman about to add a bit of care to one's wardrobe.]

[Of course, it wasn't so much that Norrington didn't know how. It was just that he usually got some low-born layabout fool to do it for him. His fingers were not used to fine movements and he was incapable of replicating the level of perfection that he demanded of his attire. Employing another Lucetian to do the job is looking more and more tempting. But he's hardly going to tell the pirate that in the face of his disgusting insinuations.]

Quite apart from the fact that this is my problem to solve there is precious little else to do today. Or any other day. That I should be occupied at all is a blessing.

[He hasn't been paying attention, and he his stitches have become far too broadly spaced. He curses.]

Come, come! What you need, mate, is new and more better clothing! Denim, now: I've found it most useful and agreeable. And cotton t-shirts. We'll find one for you, eh? Whilst the wench of your choice mends your frock.

[Yes, he is proposing a shopping trip.]

[If the admiral were not so entirely frustrated by the task at hand he would dismiss the suggestion without a moment's consideration. He might even have turned the pirate down regardless, but he just admitted to having bugger all to do today. Jack would likely come to his residence and rap on the door until poor Norrington gave in. What progress could he make on his stitching with that racket going on so close at hand?]

I am certain to regret this.

I'll be around to collect you shortly; I've just got to see the Joanna's secure first.

[For however long it takes, Norrington is going to be concentrating on his sewing and hoping to God that the pirate trips and knocks himself out on the way, or merely forgets, or gets distracted by something shiny and acts in accordance with his namesake. He will also be getting more and more frustrated, to the point that when at last Jack shows himself the admiral will likely feel some sense of relief in joining him after all.]

[ and by the time jack does get there, buffy has somehow managed to wrestle the garment out of norrington's hands. she has his uniform stretched across her knees and has been working furiously at the fabric with cold water and a dash of table salt. ]

Erm...what on earth is going on?

[Jack has never seen this much fail with a garment before.]

Norrington, when I said "a wench," I didn't mean MY wench.

[ she looks up from the work with a sour expression. ]

Or perhaps next time he'll learn what it's like to to be hung from the bar rafters by his ear-lobes. [ one threat per use of the word 'wench'. it's a sort of economy. ]

Hallo, Buffy my love my darling one how are you dearest? I've missed you. I'm taking our Norry shopping, now. He needs more better clothing.

Just 'better' clothing would have been sufficient. Unless, I suppose, you intended to communicate my need for a great quantity of superior clothing.

....

Damn it Jack.
