Babylon 5 fanfiction
I got pretty deep into Babylon 5 fandom recently. I really love that show. I even tried writing my one fic 'cause i do have some idea i couldn't find fulfilled by anyone else yet, but i found it quite dificult. You see, the great thing about Babylon 5 is the accuracy with which every race and every person is pictured. I mean, it's not only the name of the planet and race. It's their history, millions of little details but not too much. Just enough to feel you're not lied to :)
And the personalities! Every character has a background. You always know when you see someone, that he or she had a life before and will have one when he or she leaves. I love the way all those aliens speak. Yeah, it's English all right, but it has this subtle differences from everyday language we use. maybe it's a bit artificial sometimes, the choice of words. The accents. The habbits and traditions. All these little things you dont' really notice but make the show real. It's hard writing them. Much harder than writing Doctor Who. It feels somehow more mature, no offence. Well, it should be. Bab5 never was a children show :)
For those wh hasn't seen it, i really do recommend. The humor and music... and they do ask pretty serious questions. The first time i watched it i was about 12. And it was so simple then. This character is bad and this is good. It doesn't seem that way now. They all make their choices not just because they are bad or good. They all have their reasons and as you understand htem you can't quite judge them so easily. And this makes them so much more real. The show was thought through pretty thouroughly.
The whole storry takes place around 2250. It's pretty soon, really. And I remember how unreal it seemed 10 years ago, but now... It was only yesterday that i read in some magazine that Americans plan taking tourist to the orbit in 2 or 3 years. Even the price is not that high. And with the rapidness technology advances nowadays i even can probably believe it. God, what I'm talking about?
