Personal narratives can act as an enhancement in such situations but I believe they shouldn't be the basis. The scientist-ish nerd inside of me requires more then personal reflection and experience to be swayed. I am not quite sure what else could be offered in such a situation but I know I would need more. I do however believe that its perfectly valid to base your own personal opinions and actions at least partially on experience. Again, I have a hard time completely giving over to a backbone of personal narrative since there is the possibility that just because you experienced something doesn't mean it will always happen, or even mostly happen. Saying you believe something is a trend isn't as effective as showing me that it is. You can't show me it is if you base the entire thing on your own experience, because you are just one person and your experience of life isn't necessarily close to anyone else's. I am also wary of it on the personal scale because I feel that basing opinions fully on a single person's experience, even if it is your own, makes it far too easy to make faulty generalizations.
