controversial.

well, this whole LJ thing needs some spicing up...it gets kinda old updating about what you ate this afternoon. -.-

so im thinking that, from now on, im going to use this to bring up mediocre and huge controversial issues on this thing, and all of you are free to post your opinions/comments. I  love talking to kids about this kind of stuff, and even if what everybody has to say is completely different than anybody elses, id still love to get everybody's opinion. I'm not saying that i am right and you are wrong or vice versa... but yeah, you get the picture.

I think im going to start off by bringing up the topic of the so called "corporate rock". its been on my mind recently with all the MTV busting out everywhere.

what is selling out?

is selling out when one who used to be "underground" now becomes famous and plays in arenas and large clubs?

is selling out have your 2nd cd being even more famous than the first?

everybody's opinion is different...

In music's past, even the greats and starters of rock culture have been accused of selling out

1) The Beatles: They came in to the scene as "hoodlums", with their "too long hair" and controversial songs. when accused of "selling out" it was at the time when they began looking more uniform with their crisp, black suits.

2.) Pink Floyd: When accused of "selling out" it was when they released theur album The Wall, with the song that everybody and the dog knows, "Another Brick in the Wall." Their songs before they "sold out" were unlike anything on the The Wall album...

3.) Queen: They released "Another One Bites the Dust"... with a typical disco beat, similar to almost every song coming out during the 70's.  It was then that they were accused of "selling out."

4.) Metallica. enough said.

why would a band "sell out"? perhaps its the fact that these people have to sell albums... in order to live and eat and go about life. Sure, there could be a great indie, underground band, but if it doesn't sell albums and one doesnt have a backup plan for life... what the hell are you going to do? "Selling out" is defined in many ways.. heck, one could define it as becoming fucking famous...the fact that they are no longer underground.

im not saying every band out there right now sounds exactly the same..but thats kind of the vibe I've been getting lately. every single song  on the MTV rock countdown has the same exact beat, melody, and feel to it. even their names are the same... taking back sunday. thursday. whats next? dying for monday?

i dont know. dont get me wrong, im in love with some of the music that's out there right now...but yes. just a feeling

thanks for reading. i know it was long... comment if you wish! id love your opinion.
