Sorry to bother but I would like to ask a question concerning another group of POW.
Now what hapened to the red troops that were captured by the Whites? Sibiria did have a developed system of POW camps but Kolchaks troops never captured above 50-70 000 and put some of them into their army. Now far more interesting are the armed forces of Southern Russia.
We know that Denikins forces were most of the time much smaller then the reds oposing them but also of conciderably higher quality. They often used maneuver and shock tactics to break the enemies organisation and then take him prisoner. And while Kolchaks troops usualy report rather few prisoners taken (Perm being an exeption) Denikins forces very often report taking several times the number of the troops doing the taking. So Wrangels army counting about 20 000 reports capturing 40 000 in its Tzaryzin campagin. And Wrangel give the overall number of prisoners taken by his Caukasus army in the time between its formation and abandonment of Tzaryzin as being 200 000(!!!). Even before that the whites almost utterly crushed the 200 000 strong north caukasus red front, reporting prisoner numbers in single battles as being 50 000 and 30 000 among others. LAter in 1919 white units like Shkuros corps and ofcourse the Voulonteer corps report taking tens of thousands (suposedly Shkuro took 15 000 when taking Ekaterinoslavl and 20 000 when taking Voronesh). Even if we divide all the white claims by a factor of 2 we still get about 500 000 red troops taken prisoner by the VSUR forces. I know that some were shot at capture, others let free and others again integrated into white units but by far not all I presume! So this would leave us with a number of prisoners in white custody that far surpasses that taken by the Polish army. Concidering that Denikins troops didnt have many men in the rear and for most of the civil war they didnt controll much land I wonder what they did with such huge mass of people. Is it possible that the death toll here surpasses that of the Polish war?
