Brittany wonders why on earth all the glee kids assume she likes ducks. On her birthday, Brittany opens her locker to find three presents. She has no idea how anyone got into her locker; after all, she has a lock and only she knows the oh-so-secretive combination, 1-2-3. She lets it go, as it is presents after all!
She excitedly opens the first. Its from Mike, as she can tell from his barely legible handwriting on the card. The package is a clear bag filled with torn bread pieces and some sort of grain. Confused, she tries to read what he’s written. Something about the park and feeding ducks. Eww, ducks. What a horrible present!
Ever since that day in Glee club when Mr. Shue had the hat with the duck in it, she’s been worried sick when in school. One minute, everyone said there was a duck in the hat.....or something like that. Then, the next, everyone pulled out papers and started singing and no one said anything about the duck again. Brittany concluded a few minutes later that the duck escaped and was wondering around the school (and still was, for that matter!). She also figured out that, since everyone had forgotten about the duck, it had super powers and erased all their memories.....except hers, for some strange reason. So now, she’s really creeped out that she goes to a school that has an evil genius duck running around.
The second present is just like the first. Mercedes and Kurt have given her a studded denim handbag. Its totally cute and would be awesome for storing her Cherrio’s uniform. The only problem is the duck sown on the front. Its staring at her, she can tell.
The last is from Quinn and Rachel, who have been working in a pair recently. She throws the music note paper to the ground to find a duck themed necklace and earring set. There’s a card at the bottom. It’s front cover is a picture of a fuzzy yellow duck with a speech bubble coming out of it’s mouth, saying “Have a qucktastic birthday!”. She opens it, hoping to find money, like she sometimes does when she gets a card. However, to her surprise, the card begins to quack at her. She flings the card down on the floor in surprise and fear. Sighing and pushing her presents to the bottom of her locker, she slams it closed, and hurries off to first period......or is it third?
At Glee that afternoon, she sulks into the room. She had to fake happiness as each of her friends presented her with a duck themed gift. She now has tee shirts, candy, mugs, pencils and even hats with ducks on them. She hopes that everything will be better now-no more presents. She can’t understand why everyone has been giving her duck things! She never even liked ducks to begin with!
Entering the room, she sees her friends crowded around Finn, who is holding the biggest duck she has ever seen. Its fake; like, duh! But, its still a duck. Finn is petting his head and everyone is smiling at it like fools. Its only then that she understands. Oh, no! The Demon Duck had finally taken over her friends’ bodies. He’s making them only think about and worship ducks. How horrible! Well, its too late to save her friends, but she can still get out alive. She deserves it. It is, after all, her 16th birthday.
Or is it 17th?
Brittany drops her bag, shaking. “You poor souls!” she shrieks. Everyone looks up, surprised to see her.....and looking a little frightened. “He’s taken you over!” She backs away, keeping her eyes on the huge stuffed duck in Finn’s arms. “I’m sorry,” she says as she gets to the door. “I’ll miss you all. Especially you, San.” She hits the hall and runs as fast as she can. She’ll get her mom and dad to drive away from town and escape the Demon Duck. She can visit her grandmother for her birthday. She has cats, which Brittany likes. Not ducks.
Back in the music room, Finn looks around at everyone giving each other strange looks. Everyone is murmuring things like “What is she talking about?” and “Who took us over?” Finn looks down at the huge duck. “Aww!” he says, stroking it’s head. “We never even got to bring out the cake!”
