Writing = slamming head against brick wall

The title says it all. I'm trying to start an original story called Sonata, which is going to be a sort of sci-fi/thriller/mystery. I know the characters, I know the plot, I know several scenes that'll take place... I sorted all of that out before I even considered putting pen to paper (or rather, fingers to keys) but now I can't do the actual writing! It all sounds weak and ... boring. I can't get the characters across right, and I can't find space to fit description in.
*cries*
Any helpful hints? Maybe I'll just start on the second draft of Splash, even though I'm not in a writing mood... Oh, and on a bit of a tangent - I seem to have a worrying fixation with stories starting in 's'. Splash, Sonata, Sunshine in the Afternoon, Simple Gifts, Skeletal Fears, Sudden Parenthood ... even my FF.net username, Storms-Are-My-Nature! *headdesk*

help!, writing, writer's block
