Here's my conclusion (ya, i skipped the intro. conclusion is what ppl read anyways): being shomer negiah is so much easier than being shomer on kol isha. not that this has any relevance to anything. . .
Being shomer negiah is so much easier when you aren't dating, whereas kol isha involves not singing anywhere outside of your room/shower (ahem - disney songs in the shower is what I live for...okay, not really, but I do that anyway).
In conclusion, there is no conclusion. Both are hard, we live, we're good Jews. The end :)
my point exactly - i can never sing, whether dating or not! i think that given the (lack of) quality that my voice has, i should be allowed to sing. i mean really, there ain't no guy who can actually be attracted to my voice! also, i think there should be kol Ish. 1.) its only fair 2.) girls can be just as attracted to men's voices as they can to ours. im done my rant now
i'm with you, man. i mean really, what's with the gender differentiation here? i know many a girl who fell in love with a guy based on the sound of his voice.
plus, no offense rebecca, but shomer negiah is only hard for a (relatively) short period of time with one specific person, whereas kol isha is all people, all the time.
unless, of course, you have a burning desire to touch every guy you see, in which case i don't really think ANY halacha is your biggest problem ...
