Technology update

I got a new phone so I wrote a long-winded update about it. Like it's 2004 or something!

My old mobile phone, a Droid 2 which I've had for over a year now is finally gone... in its place I have a nice new shiny iPhone 4. I hesitated to move to the iPhone because I already have an iPod Touch, but ultimately I decided to make the jump to an iOS device; the Android OS just wasn't making me happy.

Actually that's untrue, I was fine with the Android OS, it was the Android devices that were pissing me off. Within a few weeks of getting my Droid 2, the autofocus in the camera broke. I discovered that this was a common defect in the model, and not covered by the insurance policy (which I do have). Later the phone developed all manners of quirks, the sliding keypad would produce double or triple letters, and generate periods even when the period button was not touched. This forced me to use the device's touch screen (a mediocre touchscreen, mind you), which soon developed problems of its own. The function for changing to Español is engaged by holding the space bar. So of course it would start spell checking and auto correcting in Spanish with every tap of the space bar. For the last few months using the damn thing has been infuriating.

Nevertheless I was invested in the Android OS. I had tons of apps, including two games that I paid for: Myth Defense LF and Robo Defense. I actually got my first Android device, a Droid 1, shortly after it was released in late 2009, before the iPhone was available on Verizon's network and my decision to go with the Droid 2 was definitely influenced by the ability to retain my apps. Plus also the hope that, y'know, second generation hardware would be better.

So when I got to the Verizon store the sales rep steered me away from the Droid 3 telling me that if I wanted to stick with an Android device, I should go for the Droid Razr (priced at $249) because it had a better touch screen than the Droid 3. I asked what if I wanted to spend around $100? Thus my decision to go with the iPhone 4. It is awesome! The graphics are way better than than Droid 2, the touch screen is way more responsive (to the point that I don't even miss the keypad at all), and I already found a game app that I love... behold the trailer for Battleheart; it's rad:

And in other news I have one of the new panels I mentioned in my earlier post done. Perhaps I'll post that soon.

'Til then!
