An 18 year old school girl was quoted in an ST article today about kids doing chores. She said "I don't think it's important to learn how to do chores because it is common sense. If I have to do them some day, I'm sure I'll know how. In the future, I'll get a maid and I won't make my children do chores, either."
OMG *jaw drops* Is this a generation gap thing that is happening? When my sister and I were growing up, my mother made us wash our own shoes (remember, the beat-up canvas Batas which you had to "paint" every weekend with the liquid white polish?), sweep the floors and wash our own plates, while she cooked, did the laundry and ironed.
Now she's still cooking and doing the laundry, but I've taken over my own ironing duties. And yes, ironing is a bitch, but hey, someone's got to do it.
Oh btw, Santa Claus, if you're listening,
can I have this for christmas?
