My Weekend, Part One: The Aquaduct Walk and Thanksgiving

Nov 26, 2007 07:37

So, this weekend was very different from my normal ones. First of all, I had three days off, which was totally awesome after two weekends in a row of speech contests on Saturday. Second of all, we had to shy away from all major sites cause of the maple leaf insanity. We originally intended to see Nanzen-in, but we decided against paying to go inside once we saw the massive mob of people. Instead, we decided to take a walk along the aquaduct and see where it would lead us.

A bridge:

A boat and a wheel in the reservoir:

A mossy stone bridge leading to a house:

Two grainery-style buildings at a mountain shrine we came upon:

A pretty tree:

Would you go in here?

We did. The ceiling was so low I had to bend a little:

The torii against the fall leaves:

Some ceramic komainu:

Close-ups:

Some little plates with what I think are prayers or requests to the kami written on them:

Bamboo in the forest:

A holy cow:

More pretty fall colors:

After that, we took the subway home and stopped in a bakery on Kitayama street. Here is what we got:

Teddy's roll cake:

My pie like pastry:

Then, later that evening, we had Thanksgiving dinner with our friend Yoshi. Here is a picture of our feast:

Sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, peas and rolls:

It was quite tasty.

The next post will be about Saturday!
