[Although Faramir had seen many strange things during his lifetime, the peculiar communication device - if that was it’s true purpose - was very different to anything he had seen in Gondor or, indeed, anywhere else in Middle-earth.]
Is this what has brought me to this strange place?
[He turned it over carefully in his hands. With the exception of the insubstantial clothing that he wore and the cold metal bed that he’d awoken on, it was the only object in the room. He longed for the comforting weight of his sword at his side. Though he would not shed blood without good cause, but he would not hesitate to fight if the time came.]
What manner of magic is this? What sorcery can pull a man away from his home and his kin? I know that I am not dead, though this place has the chill of death upon it. I was saved from the flames by the bravery of a good friend.
[Faramir addressed his next question to his unseen captors, even if a part of him knew better than to expect an answer.]
I am Faramir, Captain of the White Tower and Ranger of Ithilien. [And, perhaps, if his father had died on the pyre, the Steward of Gondor.] Who has brought me here? If there is anyone here to answer me, I bid you to speak. The men of Gondor make poor prisoners but we can be valuable allies.
