And Charles was more than inclined to join himself for a drink. He really hadn't had a good drink since his arrival here. Hopefully there would be a decent selection where they were planning on indulging in alcohol. When he does get there it's easy enough to find Charles, though he feared he would get a headache too quickly from all the flashing lights. Were they really necessary? And the music was no better.
The alcohol better be amazing.
"I hope you've acquired something good for us to drink, I fear this place will be the end of my sanity without a buzz to dull my senses." Charles will say, slipping into the booth with himself.
"You should try being here when the pinball machine is going," Charles said dryly, pushing the half filled tumbler towards himself. "I have never considered myself a violent man but I was contemplating how exactly one would crash the thing with a bar stool."
As for the quality of the alcohol, he makes a face and reaches to spin the bottle towards Charles so he can inspect it.
"It is no single malt I fear, a whiskey or at best a blend, not too rough after the first two or three swallows."
Truly the whiskey probably was fairly top shelf for whiskey, just when you're used to aged, single malt scotch just about everything else tastes rough.
"Should I?" A light chuckle. "I think I will pass on that."
As he offered an inspection of their beverage, most likely not the last one of their little outing, Charles finds himself quite pleased really. Whiskey sounded wonderful right now, as much as his other self didn't seem to approve as he did.
"While I would not mind what you prefer, I am no fool to push away a good bottle of whiskey. Especially when we have full reign of it." Free of charge as well. How could he complain? He'll pour himself a glass, admiring the color of the liquid before tipping his head back for a good long swallow of it.
"Oh. Oh lord that's amazing." He laughs, trying not to cough as he does. Amazing, but he really shouldn't down it so fast.
Your group of young people seemed to enjoy it. [Charles said thoughtfully, lifting the glass to his lips and putting it down in three quick swallows. He let Charles pour himself some more and then reached for the bottle to refill his own glass.]
Cin Cin. [He offered before knocking back a healthy swallow but then slowing down a little.]
It is certainly bearable and was quite welcome when I discovered it a few weeks ago. [Charles agreed.] If ever a place required a drink or five, it is this city.
Did they? [When had they been down here? Charles felt he was slipping when it came to keeping an eye on them. He'll have to ask them about it.]
And I must agree with you, as is proper to agree with one's self. Though I can say that there is always a good reason for a drink. [Or one can be made. He'll finish off this glass, with a lick of his lips, taking a moment to enjoy it going down, before pouring another glass.]
Minus the obnoxious music and lights, this isn't such a terrible place is it?
Mmmm [Charles said with a nod.] There was a man, named Scott who seemed to be keeping an eye on them, though I'm not sure if I was a particularly good influence. I attempted to Cardinalize Alex.
[Charles pondered this memory and pursed his lips.] He ended up drinking more than learning.
[Shrugging, Charles leaned back against the booth, glass in hand as he looked at himself.]
It is bearable, I suppose and for now I appreciate the activity. We have a psycho interested in us, Charles. For the moment, he wants you but only knows about me. You need to start being careful.
[Not that Charles approved of the children all drinking but... well things had been crazy lately. What with impending war at home and everything happening here. Hell, he'd started drinking well before he was supposed to, still, that he hadn't know did bother him.]
So I take it bonding with the children over drinks worked better than your first attempt?
[Or maybe not, he could be reading it wrong. But at Charles' warning he'll raise a brow, taking a sip from his glass.]
Would he happen to look just like Erik? He's warned me before hand, I've yet to personally speak with him or have the pleasure of meeting him in person. But you on the other hand... I'm sorry that you've gotten in such trouble because of me.
[Self, do you recall the drinking we were doing in our late teens? They're teenagers blowing off steam, be glad the building hadn't been brought down by boastful power displays.]
Bon-ding? [Have a look self, Charles would not call it bonding. He didn't do bonding. He'd accepted Alex's very unique form of apology and tried to keep from being offended by the young man's thoughts.
Setting aside the talk of the children for the more important subject of Burke, Charles took a healthy swig off his glass and reached for the bottle.]
Mmmm, yes, except for the tattoos, which are quite distinctive and well his mind is also a glaring difference as well. [Here Charles goes a little green at the edges, finishing off his whiskey and pouring more.] There is no pleasure in meeting him, Charles I can assure you of that and do not be silly. You have nothing to do with Burke's desire to torment Erik it is simply what it is.
[The same logic he'd always applied in those rare lucid moments when Sharon had tried to apologize to her son when Marko

[Realizing that Charles is more interested in speaking of this Burke character, he'll leave the drunk 'bonding' with the children alone. He can speak to them about it after all if he wants to know more.]
I meant more along the lines that our likeness is what has you dealing with this mad man in the first place. You should not have to on my account.
[And Charles has no illusions of the fact that Erik would not be happy if Burke got a hold of him. How he'd responded to the man getting a hold of his other self was enough to show that.]
I don't want you using yourself to keep him away from me though. That is out of the question.
[It wasn't so much that he wouldn't talk about drinking with the kids, except it had only been Alex and Charles had taken the opportunity to meet Scott but that was pretty much the whole of it. Not very exciting, at least it hadn't been by the time Charles had left. Who knew what happened afterwards.
As for Burke, Charles gave his head a shake and lifted his glass to his lips.]
While it is probable that his interest in our first meeting was mostly fueled by his mistaken assumption that I was you, I think I've made my own impression on him since then.
[Charles frowned deeply, his eyes averted as he plays with the glass in his hands.]
That first time, his mind ... the things that are in his mind, they frightened me and I ah ... [It was hard to actually say the words aloud, shame creeping up his throat and threatening to choke him.] I lashed out; filled his mind with my memories of being trapped in the morgue freezer, to stop him from moving towards me
