When there's a lull around the place, Carl makes sure his little black book is up to date. Wouldn't do any good to let it fall behind when you never know when you might need those access numbers.
Trouble is, this stuff takes a while, so he's got some reading material on hand too.

"Hi, Carl." Suzi is not quiet. She's always got her anklet on, always. It isn't terribly loud, either, but very easy to tell where she is and where she's going. "You like, um...which sandwich, again?"

If one person in the room gets hungry in direct relation to everyone else, and isn't used to feeling it, she's the one who ends up going and getting lunch. Often before the rest of the room realizes that they're hungry.

"Hey, Suzi. Roast beef, onions and ketchup, wheat bread."
...It's lunchtime already? How about that.

"Right, okay." She digs down to that one and passes it over. She'll offer to the rest of the guys as they put the machines away, "Its really slow today, isn't it? Is that good?" This last may be directed about the slow, and may be directed about the book on his desk.

"Thanks. It's... well, the slow has its uses, and the book's good enough for a reread, I think."

"What's, um. What is it? The book, I mean?" The Shadow Over Innsmouth is the title she sees, complete with cheesey cover.

"Non-humans running a cult in a town. If you want to borrow it, you can, but I warn you, it's... rather on the creepy side."
He likes Suzi. And he also doesn't want Whistler to kill him for breaking his girlfriend.

And breaking Suzi is, in fact, distressingly easy, "I'll, um. I'll look and see if there is a Braille copy somewhere? I try to get books that, um, that Whistler can read too." Her smile is wry as she pushes hair out of her eyes, "Do you, um. Read a lot of that kind of thing?"

"This in particular, a little. Science fiction in general, a lot, yeah. There's some good stuff out there."

"I get, um. Confused by science fiction. Some of the people in the bar do things that show up in those books? Or when something is supposed to be far in the future...and is, um, is hundreds of years before I was born?" She offers a soft laugh, "But, um, what would you reccommend?"

Carl shrugs. "Most of it was far in the future when it was written. In that light, it makes a little more sense. Good stuff... Isaac Asimov, Robert Heinlein, and Orson Scott Card. And Lovecraft," he adds, holding up the book that started the discussion, "but in small doses. The others don't tend as much toward the scary."

"Okay." She nods, commiting the names to memory (Although she's going to be looking for odd spellings of the names. Her spelling is a little wonky). "Its still, um, still a disconnect? But, um, but I'll try to keep that in mind. About relative futures?"

"There's a lot of stuff people in 1950 thought we'd have by 2000, and I'd say most of it's not gonna happen in the next eight years. Only so fast things can happen..."
And then something else catches up with him. "Wait, people in that bar do some of that stuff? I've got to find that place."

"Uh huh. Dr. Stantz does lots of weird things? And, um. Michael has a spaceship? I think he does, anyway. He's not human?" Her voice is wry, and she shakes her head, "He eats humans, actually."

"...No, really. I have got to find this place."
Seriously. Why does Whistler get all the fun?

Suzi could answer that question, but its probably more pornographic than Carl wants to contemplate. "I, um. I can't help? I can only get here when Whistler brings me?"

"Don't worry about it. I'll figure something out one of these days."
