I'm getting this information from a recent Harris Poll, (November 2007)
Keep in mind that their sample size was 2500 USAians with access to the internet and that like to take polls.
Also, while the term 'god' would usually refer to a personal god, this poll did not specify. This means that someone who believes that god drives their car, gave their grandmother cancer and whispers in their ear telling them what to do, gets counted the same as a someone who believes that god created the universe but does not intervene in our workings, does not have a personal relationship with/ or perhaps even "care" about anything.
87% of Republicans belive in god
84% of women believe in god
82% of those with no college education believe in god
79% believe in miracles
78% of Democrats belive in god
73% of men believe in god
73% of college educated people believe in god
62% believe in the devil
42% believe that evolution explains how life works
41% believe in ghosts
39% believe in creationism
35% believe in flying saucers
31% believe in witches
18% don't believe in god.
8% of catholics don't believe in god
And this from a Gallup Poll in 2005
73% believe in at least something paranormal/supernatural
41% believe in ESP
37% believe in haunted houses
26% believe that it's possible to see into the past or to accurately predict the future
25% believe that the planets affect people's live in tangible ways
It's good to see that skepticism and rationalism are doing so well, *cough*
