Regarding Merry Gentry and Whittier...

So this one has recently read Merry Gentry and OHDEARLORD. Is this the kind of scandalous that was Dangerous Liaisons in it's original century? Certainly it reads as quite insipid now, bar the novelty of the epistolary style which really became quite tiresome fifty pages in.

So now that the reactionary flailing is over, this one is sad. It could have actually been a good novel, with brilliant world building really, if one cuts out the gratuituous sex scenes and also the repeated descriptions that have been repeated described eight times due to there being eight books and doubtless the ninth tenth and eleventh and and and...! and monologuing. One can see very obviously the need for a good editor.

That being someone who could wade through the rubbish and cut the first seven books into one maybe two? instead, and leave the rest of the twelfth thirteenth forteenth for a third to complete a trilogy. Then it could be a yay! read. Right now it is drivel. Entertaining, yes, but also lots of what and speedreading and also waywayway too much sex. It got boring, okay? Sure, fertility goddess I see what you did there! and all, and this one is not saying to bleach the narrative to pg13, but really, some random guy and then sex! and there being no furthering of the plot, okay, and what is this Ivy = Ivi?

Is this a fantasy series or not, seriously.

And Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel? That one went well until it was brought low from sequel-itis.

Really, when seven books has enough plot between them to be cut down to two- can this one say money making business, anyone?

So this one feels vaguely? sad. For of all sad words of tongue or pen...are these "It might have been!" good.
