Ketchup, Catch up!

Well, okay, if you insist.

Let's see. In order to have the night of 4th of July off, I traded shifts with Rob. That means I still got a seven-hour shift in with time-and-a-half pay, but it was the opening shift. So I closed Tuesday night and opened Wednesday morning, and actually had a great deal of fun. I was definitely more awake for my opening shift than I usually am, and enjoyed rocking it in the drive-through with Jonah.

Afterwards, went and got my bloody pedicure. My poor feet are still complaining but my toes look uber cute. Mom and me went to SteakandShake because I was wanting some pie. They had cobbler, which sufficed. We were basically just really loud and obnoxious, which was great, but we were like the only people in there anyways. Our waiter, Alex, is early twenties about and was really flirty, and flirt that I am, I flirted right back without feeling any real connection. Nonetheless, Mom thought he was cute and sweet and liked that he called her "ma'am". As we were leaving, Mom wanted me to leave my number. He sprinted across the restaurant in order to take our ticket, which was cute. Mom left him a $5 tip because he had been all excited telling me about it earlier. This other guy behind the counter while Alex did our check said, "How you guys doing today?" and then proceeded to just STARE at me awkwardly the next time minutes we were in there. Um, subtlety, thy middle name is not.

After that, went home and slept until about seven, when Mom got me up so that she, me, Jerry, Thomas, and Brittney could have our picnic at Chisolm. Barbecue, brownies, spiced lemonade, and potato salad, it was the quintessential 4th of July dinner. The ice cream man drove by and Thomas paid for ice cream. I took pictures of ducks and we waded around through all the mud. Then it was back to the house to play with sparklers, which was great fun, even if I did step on burning embers and get lots of small little pinprick burns on my wrists. They're great fun, though.

For fireworks, we all --and I mean ALL-- wound up down by the post office right beneath where they shoot off the fireworks. Mom and Jerry were on one blanket, where Thomas and Brittney spent most of the night. Dad, Sandy, Paige, and Sam just happened to be staked out about three steps behind us, which was a happy coincidence. I spent the most of the night on their blanket taking pictures of fireworks with my Rebel. No one ever cares to look at firework pictures later because they all turn out crappy and the same, but I got some that turned our pretty. Afterwards walked back to the house, which was a challenge for Mom because of dizziness, and then I just barely had time to put pictures online before falling asleep.

Work last night was a lot of fun until closing --which was still fun, but also stressful. Jonah was closing as shift lead for the second time, Haley was training, and Oliver has only closed once before. This meant I was the only veteran closer and had to show/tell everyone how to do things and do as much as I could on my own. I wound up doing dishes, pastry case, stocking, coffee carafes, wipe down, trashes, and oh so much more. Jonah realized at least that I was having to do EVERYTHING and whispered, "Good job . . . Jessa." We didn't get out until midnight which, all things considered, wasn't bad at all.

Then Oliver and me went up the street to Whataburger because was hungry and I was just aching to do something nonwork. We just talked for about an hour, but it was nice times. We've agreed that when I get back from Ireland, we're going to be each other's Right Wing Men for dating advice, haha. At work, all the boys were teasing me about singleness and loneliness and all that. Just good-natured teasing. Then this really hot guy came in and wanted green tea, so I did some idle chatter while I got his tea. Well as soon as I walked into the backroom, Jonah, Oliver, and Rob were yelling, "He was totally flirting with you! You missed your chance! You should have given him your number!!!" Well Haley went over behind him and was being really obnoxious; she hasn't changed much since we were thirteen. The guy set up camp in the back corner and later didn't realize we had closed. Well no one would go tell him because they wanted me to, so I finally went up to him and apologized, 'I'm sorry, sir, but we're actually closed now." He apologized, and I told him about the Starbucks up by the mall being open later. And then . . . he left and that was it. Oliver was horrified that I called him sir, haha, and all of them kept saying, 'We were just talking about this! You missed your chance!" Jonah is convinced I'll meet the love of my life in Europe, either on this trip or in the fall. He's definitely not the first to tell me that, but part of me feels like I'm still going to be rocking the singles clubs for a few more years. Meh, who cares. What happens, happens.

What else was there? Oh, Dad had said he would come eat dinner with me and I had bragged to everyone about it. Then, go figure, I couldn't get hold of him in time for dinner. I think everyone saw how disappointed I was, but hey, welcome to my life. Then Mom and Jerry showed up and everyone was excited, but I was like, "Haha, WRONG parents!" Mom said they were coming back from dinner and she just got a feeling they needed to stop by. So I got to sit with them for seven minutes until dinner was over. Dad called at the very end and was like, "Oh, well you're probably at the very end of dinner, huh? Then I won't bother stopping by." He at least sounded apologetic, but he still could have come up to see me. Then I would have taken a ten --but I wound up not taking either of my tens. There have been worst atrocities.

And, last but not least, Half Price Books. I ran up there yesterday to get an Ireland travel book for hostel info and whatnot. The woman in line in front of me was a total bitch to the girl working the counter, so I sympathized with her when I got up there, rolling my eyes at customers and the sheer lack of manners in a majority of people these days. We chatted about it for some five minutes, and she promised she's going to come by Starbucks to cheer me up some time, haha. That's two (Alex from Steak'n'Shake knows where I work too) customers I may have inadvertently scored for Starbucks simply by being affable.

All right, anything else? In the car now on the way to Wichita. Freezing my backside off and STARVING because I didn't eat after work OR this morning. I have a goat cheese salad with me, but why don't I see Jerry being okay with me eating it in the backseat? I don't have a fork anyways.

Wrote that in the car ride up here, most of which I slept through. Now I'm chilling in my own hotel room in WICHITA, KANSAS, where all the cool kids roll. NOT! lol, oh, the things I do for the sake of family, eh? I gobble down half my goat-cheese salad with my fingers when I got here because I was so hungry. What do we do for the rest of the night? I have no idea, but I could really go for some cookies and milk right about now . . .

Oh, and I tried to put pictures on here, but they're all coming up as errors. I think my new layout may be screwing with it. If you really want to see, check out my webshots page, link to the right.
