Beck: live action movie

Sep 04, 2010 22:22

I went to get my car fixed, and since it was just another 45 minutes away, I dropped by the next city to catch:

Keeping in mind that I didn't read the manga or watch the anime...

I LOVED IT.

♥ - Mizushima Hiro (Ryusuke) and Kutsuna Shiori (Maho) both must have spent a good 60% of the movie speaking English. Perfectly accented English. I had expected such perfection from MizuHiro, having seen some clips of him speaking English and knowing that he studied abroad before, but Kutsuna Shiori was a huge surprise. There was no Engrish in this movie, at all. I was extremely impressed. The sad thing is, I'll bet most of the Japanese audience has no idea just how good their English was. *l-lol*

♥ - Slightly related to the first point, MizuHiro has a tiny lisp when he speaks English. It is adorable. <3

♥ - The shounen-esque ending with tons of people showing up at Beck's stage at the summer festival to watch their performance and Chiba weeping tears of joy... man. I totally cried, too. To be honest, I already got a little teary-eyed when all the band members gathered one by one on stage, resolving their differences right there like nothing happened; they just understood each other that well. It takes five to be Beck, man.

♥ - Romance was there (Koyuki/Maho, Saku/Fan, s-sorry I forgot her name) and acted as a catalyst for Koyuki's character development, but it didn't force its way into the storyline as a central plot point. It was just there, following the band's story as it moved forward. Just the way I like it. |Db

♥ - Mukai Osamu as Taira was hot. The end.

♥ - Chibaaaaaaaa. Such an earnest retard. <3 Favourite scene: when all the band members revealed their vision of performing in front of a large crowd at the summer festival, and after a pause, Chiba shrieks, I DIDN'T HAVE THIS VISION WTFFFFFFFF. I lol'd.

♥ - Satou Takeru plays the cutest Koyuki ever. He has these honest, wide doe eyes that make you want to hug him whenever something bad happens to him.

♥ - I like that Takeru never sang as Koyuki. Yes, you read that right: you will never hear Koyuki sing in the movie, ever. At first I thought they were holding it until the very end, so viewers could be wow'd by his beautiful voice in the climax scene, but it never came. But I do like that they left it to our imagination; I'll bet Koyuki's voice in our head sounds far better than any actual singing (which may have just been disappointing, especially after how much hype his vocals got).

♥ - THE MUSIC HE-LLO. It's a pity that Beck's slow songs won't have any singing, but their rock songs, hell yeah baby. Besides that, Belle Ame had songs, not to mention the assorted jam sessions scattered throughout the movie. :D

♥ - Yoshito was very pretty, but I wanted to punch him a lot. In the face.

♥ - The TWIST that Koyuki became an invaluable member of the band as a backup vocalist was, I thought, pretty cool. A good part of the movie was spent with Koyuki learning how to play the guitar, so I kept thinking he'd join Beck as this AMAZING GENIUS ROOKIE GUITARIST, but no! He got good at the guitar, yes, but he's clearly not a boy wonder; Taira was reluctant to let him join Beck, even. It's not only until he sings that the band members and the viewers realize that Koyuki's real talent lies in his vocals.

♥ - Matt in Dying Breed was so awesome when he lit Belle Ame's Eiji's guitar on fire and said their music was trash. Me, biased? |D

♥ - Not sure why there were so many comments in the movie about Beck being ugly; I thought he was adorable. The cockatoo that sang in the beginning of the movie was cute, too. :D

For those wondering- and because comparisons were made before Beck even came out -Beck is nothing like Jin's Bandage movie. Yes, they're both about bands, but that's about the only thing they have in common. ^^;

Highly, highly recommend this movie. o/ It has inspired me to work hard at my own band, too. *rolls up sleeves*
