So, I went to bible study last night, started getting some texts as soon as I got home. I mentioned in an earlier post that I was asked by a bunch of Chinese housewives to teach their bible study group. They treated me to a fairly nice dinner so I felt obligated to give it a try. The closer to the day I got, the more invested I became as I wanted to really embrace the experience.
"What's does Unitarian Universalist mean?"
That was the theme of most of them, they were curious as to what I believe. I told them that my view on Christianity is complex but my faith is simple. I believe in god and that is it. They all somewhat agreed and then we all went our own ways.
I also explained to them as a UU, I consider myself Christian, however, I also believe that god welcomes all souls into whatever exists for us in the afterlife. I don't think god cares whatever we call god, I believe god just wants us to love god and love each other.
I try to avoid using male pronouns when speaking about god, mostly to irritate people who insist on seeing god as a male father figure. While it amuses me, it can be a bit heavy handed at times when writing entire sentences without using he/him/his.
Anyhooters...
So next morning, I get a message telling me that I believe in different things about god and Jesus than the bible study group. They blocked me on wechat and told me not to come back to their study group.
Oh well...
My Thursdays just got a lot easier.
Not at all angry, more so annoyed I wasted my time and amused I got fired by Jesus. As I told my coworker, "Fired by Fundies" a hot new sit coe with an all star cast, coming to TVs everywhere in the next week or decade or century.
