Hey, you're the one that signed up. And at least you get paid for your time.

Actually, now that I think about it, we got free bottled water in Kuwait, too. I'm going to make the same suggestion I made to Jesse now. How about some volunteer work? I mean, as long as you're unemployed and almost unemployable, it's good life experience, and I'm sure counts as work experience, too. Or like the Peace Corps or something. Idunno what a CS degree would do for you in the Peace Corps, but I haven't really looked into it at all, so who knows?

I actually did look very seriously into joining the Peace Corps while I was still in school. I decided against it for two reasons. The first is that I thought having a year between getting out of school and getting a job would hurt my chances. That is starting to seem like much less of a concern now. But the second and much bigger reason is that I kept reading from Peace Corps veterans that they felt they were not helping. Many returned Peace Corps volunteers believe that their presence in third-world countries was merely helping maintain the status quo and support the warlords and corrupt governments they were trying to work against. There's a fair amount of evidence that the whole volunteer foreign aid system is broken. And while I'm not sure if it's true, it leaves me with enough uncertainty that I decided I'd rather not ( ... )

Well, shit, there are other organizations out there, the Peace Corps is just the first one that comes to mind. And it doesn't necessarily have to be foreign aid, does it?

Anyway, I doubt 'one year of volunteer work' would really look that bad on a resume.
