Dear Yuletide Author

Dear yuletide Author,

First of all, I am sorry in the delay in posting it.

Secondly and most importantly, thank you for signing up and thank you for participating in this year's yuletide. I'm certain that I will like almost anything that you write for me. And I sincerely hope that you have fun writing your story. I've tried to leave my prompts both in my actual sign up and below somewhat vague because I find that with most ficathons and exchanges, the more limitations that you set for your author, the less likely you're going to get something that you truly like. I want you, dear author, to be comfortable in whatever you write me. Please consider this letter a simple guideline but by no means anything set in stone.

Preferences:
Pairings: In most cases, I do prefer het, femslash and genfics. That said I do have a few fandoms where I am okay with slash fic.
Genres angst, UST, hurt/comfort, AU (except for the everyone's human AU in supernatural fandoms). I really like strong characterization, sarcastic humor, missing scene fics and fics that explore the characters and their motivations. I also have a fondness for moody/atmospheric pieces.

On the fence about: First/Second Person POV - I used to be completely opposed to it but when done right, it really works well.

Dislikes: MPREGs, PWP (not that I am against sexy times by any means but I love plot), character bashing, incestous pairings (with a few exceptions), fluff, bodily fluids (except for blood).

Now let's get onto those fandoms that I requested.

01. The Secret History - Richard, Francis, Camilla & Judy - I'd love to see something set when Richard is a little older and maybe a little wiser. Maybe ten or twenty years down the line. Something dark, cynical and maybe a bit dreamy. A touch of the supernatural on the side wouldn't hurt either (real or imagined.)

I am rather fond of Richard, even I think he's probably the most unreliable of the lot of them and an unreliable narrator. I found the novel itself to be dreamy and atmospheric and I'd love to see those elements in any story you write for me. When I mentioned about the supernatural - whether real or imagined - I like the idea of the characters being haunted by the events (or ghosts) from that year either literally or not. One of the other things that I'd love to see and I don't thinK I've seen in fanfic for this fandom is Richard is only 28 when he's narrating his story. He's not even ten years away from the events. The events took plae when he was around 20/21. Taking away the main event that occurs - which I won't spoil you by accident if you've not yet read it - I don't think that Richard really has the perspective to look back at his so-called youth. I found that there's a wistfulness and longing on his part to go back to those days, regardless of what happened. I'd love to see someone exploring what a 40 year old Richard thinks of that time. That said, I'd also love to see a fic where Richard was part of the group when they were running around in their togas in the middle of the woods. Or even just a fic about what happened that night where Richard isn't there. A fic where we see Judy as the narrator as she explores her frustrations over Richard. Or really anything.

02. The Secret Circle - TV - Jake, Cassie - I am familiar with both the TV show and the books and I felt that Jake balanced Cassie out more than Adam/Cassie. I'd like to see something with angst with these two and something set after the series.

First, I want to stress that I am familar with both the books and the TV series. If you are as well and want to do some sort of fusion fic combining the two, I'd love that. IF you don't, I'd love that too. I'm pretty chill about this fandom and pairing. I don't have a lot of requests because to be honest, I just want to see them together interacting. I love the idea of Jake teaching Cassie magic or them snarking at one another or them trying to save everyone else.

03. The Craft - Nancy, Sarah, Bonnie Rochelle - Something with angst but a side of redemption would be nice. Something set after the movie.

Every year there's one fandom that just calls my name and makes me go "oh I want that." The Craft was this year's fandom for that. I would love to see something where Nancy is redeemed. If I have one problem with the film, it's how Nancy was treated in the end. I get why it happened but I was never 100% happy with her becoming the villian of the piece. I'd equally love to see a missing scene(s) fic wtih these four ladies being awesome. I have no real shipping prefences so feel free to surprise me. My main desire is something about redemption post move and maybe a road trip (or not, since that's a last minute addition to my request.)

04. Dark Shadows 1991 - Joe, Peter, Victoria - There's not enough fic for the revival series. I would love to see Vicki with either Joe or Peter. I really don't have too many preferences as long as the atmosphere of the show is retained.

I will never be over the fact that this show got cancelled and that Victoria never got her happy ever after with Peter. I am sorry as much as I do like the Barnabas/Victoria ship, I am more a Peter/Victoria or Joe/Victoria shipper. I'd love to see something where it's moody and gothic but Victoria gets a happy ever after with either Joe or Peter or maybe even both.

05. The Historian - The Narrator, Batholomew - I'd be happy with pretty much anything in this fandom. But the two characters that fascinated me the most were Rossi and the Narrator.

I really have nothing to add to this. I'd love to see something with either or both the Narrator & Rossi.

06. Dracula - Lucy, Mina, Something dark, spooky and maybe just a little naughty between these two.

To be quite honest, I'd love anything in this fandom. I'd be happy with something that captures the mood of the novel. This is probably the one fandom that I'd be okay with an everybody human AU (with Dracula being a creepy old man.) I pretty much adore most pairings, including some "rare" ones like Lucy/Jonathan. I'd be happy with anything timeline wise - i.e. before the novel, during it or after - and I am really okay with slash, femslash. het or gen. I'd love to see a dark and spooky Lucy/Mina but I'd be happy with anything you feel like writing.

Again, I want to say that you can take the above notes about the fandoms that I've requested however you'd like. You can use them for inspiration or not, Take them or leave them. At the end of the day, I am really not that picky, I think like most of the participants, I get excited to go on about some favourite and rarer fandoms. I am really looking forward to seeing what you'll write for me. I am pretty certain that I'll love whatever you've come up with for me. The best part about is getting a fic. Thank you again for signing up to participate this year, for reading my letter and for writing me something.

yuletide 2017, 2017, yuletide
