Hawaii

Any of you ever been to...or lived in Hawaii?

How about specifically Honolulu? What can you share about Hawaii or Honolulu?

I would love to hear from everyone that knows much of anything.

I visited Hawaii a few times while I was in the Navy.
I visit the islands of Oahu, and Maui.

Hawaii is a great place to be, but extremely expensive to live there.
The weather is awesome to say the least, I would love to go back there again.

Anyway, Hawaii although beautiful can get "old" quite quick. First and foremost some folks I talked to got a bit of island fever if that makes any sense whatsoever. After the 2nd or 3rd year on the island/islands they were ready to go back to the states; personally I didn't understand this attitude until they expressed the need to see some scenery change (i.e. Mountains, flat lands, snow, etc..)

Secondly although Hawaii looks inviting there (atleast in the late 80's/early 90's was a lot tension between the local population (children of the original habitants) and the folks moving to Hawaii or vacationing there. There has been over the years more incidents of military members, or visitors being assaulted. Hawaii's government gives many free perks to the local native population such as free housing etc.. which has caused alot of issues.
