Fairmont screwed up my suite reservation

I just called the Fairmont to check on my reservation and even though my paperwork and confirmation says it's a suite they said it's a regular room. I actually wanted to change to a regular room to save money, but I'm still going to raise a stink. I recommend everyone call the Fairmont to double check their reservations ( Read more... )

Don't raise a stink. Sweet-talk them instead. "Gee, I'm really disappointed about the mix-up, but hey, we're only human. I don't mind taking the regular room if it comes to that, but any chance you could throw me a bone in that case? Maybe one room-night or something? A parking pass?"

I know someone who used to work front desk in a hotel, and he explained that they have a lot more power than they'll ever let on. Both ways. They would routinely gouge people or even screw them out of their entire reservation if someone copped a really bad attitude. Be cordial and sympathetic and they might be willing to swing a favor for you.

Oh I will. They promised to send me a new confirmation immediately (not!) so I'll print out the one I have which is for a suite. It's possible that the person on the phone mis-read it too and I do have a suite. If THAT turns out to be the case after this last phone call I'll make sure I'm not paying a cent more than I would for a regular room since that's what they said I now have.
