Another year

Another year has gone by and I'm forced to look back over the changes that have occurred.  I finally graduated with my AB in History, a field I never thought about going into when younger but feel in love with so strongly that I feel I need to do it as a career.  I have a wonderful son, even when he does get me up at 3am because he's teething.  I knew that I was going to have a baby this time last year, but we weren't sure if it was going to be a boy or a girl, or how wonderful it would be.  I've found that I can do the work required as a steel detailer, and have gone through a fairly difficult apprenticeship that could help me down the road if there is any trouble getting a job after graduation.
I've been diagnosed with hypertension, which angers me because it is mostly due to my own laziness and eating habits.  Because of it, I've lost 30 pounds and am on the way to losing 30 more.  I'm at 221 right now and my goal is to lose another 41 before I'm done.  That will take me down to what I weighed in High School, but right now I just want to get below 200 before the end of the year.  Very doable, and a realistic target.
I'm pursuing my dreams by going to graduate school full time.  Starting in January, I'm going to be taking classes and making progress towards my MA in History.  I'm not going to my first choice of schools, in fact it's my last choice, but I think getting my MA with a very high grade point average and a solid thesis will allow me to continue much easier than if I try for one of my first choices based on my AB alone.
I still have a wonderful wife, who made me two birthday cakes and is going to be doing a lot of the prep work for dinner tonight.  Back ribs with my spicy brown sugar rub and finished with a Guinness barbeque sauce, baked beans, and macaroni and cheese.  I figure it's my birthday, I can spoil myself one day in the year.
