All-American Rejects Mike Kennerty Talks Holidays with PopAwesome
Mike Kennerty of The All-American Rejects had one heck of a year in 2009, and when he says he wants to spend New Years Eve with his lady at an empty bar… we can’t blame him. It was around this time last year (December 2008) when The All-American Rejects, affectionately known as AAR, put out their third album When The World Comes Down which included songs like “I Wanna,” “Mona Lisa” and “Wind Blows.” Also on the album is super-smash “Gives You Hell” which ended up being the top played song of 2009 on Top 40 radio. Yes, AAR beat out cross-over star Taylor Swift as well as Interscope label mates Black Eyed Peas and Lady Gaga!!! Not an easy task for anyone, but AAR seems pretty comfortable looking a challenge square in the face - fortunately for the other pop stars Kennerty is taking a break over the Holidays with the only competition on his mind being Super Mario Bros. for Wii. Hey Mike, can we come over to play?
One gift you are wishing for this year?
The new Super Mario Brothers on Wii.
Best holiday gift you have ever received?
My girl got me a guitar that I’d been wanting a lot for Christmas last year. That was pretty f***ing rad!
Re-gifting… Cool or Not Cool?
If it’s something the person receiving the re-gift actually appreciates, then sure, why not…
Best Holiday song (cover or original)?
The ones they play in retail stores. I’ve never had to work in one of those places, so they just bring me back to being a kid, as opposed to making me wanna kill something.
Favorite Holiday movie?
Scrooged.
Best Album of 2009:
The Upwelling “An American Stranger”
Breakout Star of 2009:
Michael Jackson
Worst Album of 2009:
I try not to listen to bad music.
Most anticipated album of 2010?
Motion City Soundtrack “My Dinosaur Life”
How will you be spending New Years Eve?
With my lady playing MegaTouch at our favorite, empty dive bar.
New Year’s resolution?
Work more.
