My Weekend

I went to Game Underground's Video Game and Music Festival in Foxborough yesterday with Pat (Schroedinger's Fucking Pat for those on Vent) and Sean (Junk for those on M3, Fatman for those on SRT). The tournament stuff was kind of crappy because 1) we got our asses kicked generally by people who were incredibly cheesy, and 2) they started like two hours late. They also wouldn't let us leave to get food, so we had to fork over money to get overpriced stuff they had there, when I'd purchased a pizza the other night just for dinner after the tournaments.

The concert, though, was pretty nice. Jesus Candy, some local band that the guy who runs the event is in, was first and kind of so-so. Metalliham, who played last (and you can guess what they played), were technically good but I didn't enjoy it as much since I only really like a few songs by Metallica. They did play 'em, though.

However, we did get to see Brentalfloss and Powerglove play live.

Brentalfloss got rushed, so he only had like a 35 minute set (it should've been an hour) and you could tell he was rushing to do anything at all. He was cool about it though, and we spoke to him after, and he said he'd just spend more time goofing off after (which he did; he is the funny dancing type). We did hear an incredibly dirty madlibbed Mega Man 3 With Lyrics, and he also did The Con Song, Bubble Man With Lyrics, the Duck Tales Moon Stage (both with lyrics and the straight piano version), and Tetris With Lyrics. And the Testing Song for when they were doing a sound test, but that was short and funny for no real reason. Also he threw candy into the audience.

Powerglove, on the other hand... oh my god.

Wait, hold on.

OH. MY. GOD.
They're absolutely amazing in concert. They were dressed like barbarian warriors in Koopa shells, threw inflatable swords and bats at the audience to fight with, and threw more candy into the crowd because they didn't want Brentalfloss showing them up. They played a bunch of amazing songs, apparently from their new album, and I gained a new appreciation for M3's sonic attacks with how hard they rocked. My face was melted off, as Brent promised when he wrapped up.

So yeah. They were awesome. The day kind of went from "suck" to "awesome" to a sum of "pretty okay." Unless they have sufficiently awesome acts next year, we probably won't go again, though.
