Yesterday I jumped in the gulch twice.
The first time, we were outnumbered 10 to 6 and lost one during the battle. We stood no chance but I managed to take the Alliance flag for for a bit (for my first time) and at least made them have to find me first before they could score.
In the next game, I was with most of the same people, but the score was more even. 8 of us versus 8 alliance... and for some reason, our team just 'clicked'. But of course the reason I'm writing this is because I was most of the reason we won.
Flag Capture 1
A Hordie with an L name (can't remember what) took the alliance flag and was running it back while a dwarf hunter by the name of Fawd took our flag and was running himself back. We were chasing Fawd while the Alliance team chased Lname and the two parties clashed into each other like two big waves. Fawd and Lname continued to run while everyone else seemed tied up in battle.
I noticed none of our ranks chased Fawd, so I never even broke my stride - I was determined to catch that dwarf.
Strangely enough, I also noticed that no alliance chased me nor Fawd to try to assist him. He was all mine, I only had to catch him, which was no easy task since he was a hunter. Nonetheless I pursued with my minor speed increase enchanted boots and kept him in my sights. I chased him from midfield all the way back in their base, expecting with every step for him to feign and drop a freeze trap, but I kept him in combat by casting a Shadow Word: Pain on him every time he was in range.
He ran in the tunnel, then turned right to go up the hill and onto the alliance roof, and that was his mistake. I caught him. I managed to hit him with another Pain, a mind blast, and a mind flay, kicking his shadow vulnerability up to 4x stacked. I continued to chase him, but it was clear he was dead. My attack had left him with less than ten percent health. The Pain finished him off, I returned our flag, and Lname made the capture.

I began to head out of the tunnel and back to my team when the flags were placed and I realized I was alone in the alliance base. Alliance had also taken our flag. I turned around, picked up the speed boot item and ran into the flag room. I half expected to be caught in a freeze trap the second I stepped in front of the flag, but, nothing. I grabbed it and ran like hell.
I was outside the tunnel when I got stunned by a paladin and hit a bunch. Luckily I had just cast a renew on myself. Pherion feared everyone and cast a heal on me and told me to run. I did.
I kept casting renews on myself as I ran and I was halfway across the map, and almost into our tunnel when I saw that our team had killed the alliance flag carrier and returned our flag. All I had to do was make it up the tunnel and into the flag room alive.
I made it without incident and even realized on the cap that a forsaken warrior had been following me as well and just couldn't keep pace with me. It was a clean capture.

The flags were placed again, and we ran back out to midfield to meet the alliance force and we crashed like waves into rocks. I couldn't understand why my team was letting these guys stop us to fight. I healed and we continued on, but the team was hurting, so I ran off. I bolted up the alliance tunnel and when I came to the flag room, I saw a mage and a paladin standing guard. I wondered if I made a bad decision. The mage sheeped me and the paladin stunned me, breaking the sheep, and then the mage hit me with frostbolt. I turned from the flag to run straight towards them and cast fear. I was alone, for the moment. I had enough time to grab the flag and run to the tunnel entrance when the fear broke and I saw the rogue that had joined them. It was now a foot pursuit.
I was in no immediate danger as long as the rogue couldn't sprint, but I couldn't count on it. I slapped a renew on myself and let the group know that I had 3 guys on my heel. As soon as I stepped outside Pherion hit me with a heal back to full health and said "We got em". More hordies appeared to take care of the alliance team. It was now just me and an empty field ahead of me.
I was almost to our tunnel when a yell went up and horror struck me. They had taken our flag! Pondering my predicament, I headed for the tunnel...
...only to see a druid in cat form carrying the flag out of our tunnel. I wasted no time. I hit him with Pain and Mind Flay and prepared a mind blast just as a horde warrior attacked her as well. I turned to run seeing that the situation was under control and got entangled by another druid who began to spam me with moonfire.
I turned to face the tunnel, and dispelled magic from myself, breaking the roots and ridding myself of the effect of the moonfire or faerie fire, and ran straight in just as a rogue came into my field of vision, and right on my tail.
It was a battle of wills now. If he could sprint, he could surely catch me for long enough to stun me. I put another renew on myself and continued running. I looked for the speed boost item, which wasn't there, and continued to run. If the rogue sprinted or the warrior caught him, I never saw, but I made that last capture, ending the battle and declaring us the winners.
It was a good day.
