The end is near...but not really.

I got my ticket! I got my ticket! I don't know if anyone's ever been so excited about a midnight movie showing in Skokie, Illinois!

Having an online HP community is motivating me in so many crafty ways. I finished a beaded bag project that I probably never would have undertaken, had I not had fellow HP crafters to justify my madness:

Here's the Flickr link to some more pics/closeups. Details of the project are also in the Flickr description.

Maybe it's just because I recently became heavily involved in the online HP universe, but I can't see fandom waning with the release of the final film. There's just too much fun stuff to revel in! Thank you, Ms. Rowling!

Next is my wand and wand holder. I've got my dowel whittled! Using various online tutorials, I'm going to try the polymer-clay handle method. We'll see. I've only ever worked with polymer once in my life. So, we'll see.

My wand holder is a gauntlet from Butterick 5580:

I'm adding elastic casings inside to hold my wand. When I went to Hancock's yesterday (yes, Hancock's is walking distance from my house. I am a paragon of self-control.), I walked in and found the perfect vinyl remnant right away. Serendipity!

I knew I wanted whitish. Laying atop of the remnant pile was a pearlescent off-white that was exactly what I didn't know I wanted!

Instead of all this, I should be working much harder to wrap up my daughter's school year. But the gorgeous weather is stealing her focus, too. Our last day is the 17th, and we're about 95% done in all of our core subjects. To keep the fires of intellect stoked throughout the summer, I just ordered summer science supplies from the granddaddy of all geek shops, American Science and Surplus. Love them...I've been a customer since they were still called Jerryco! Should a Kindergartener be constructing closed citcuits over the summer? Absolutely!

snape, beading, embroidery, spinner's end
