Cold outside, warm in bread.

It's frosty here in Texas. Here is a holly tree from our back garden. The internet tells me this is probably Yaupon Holly, native to Texas, but I would welcome any correction. Festive anyway.

ofenjen set off my bread-need by posting a pic of a lovely loaf, so I tried this Easy Sandwich Bread from Cooks Illustrated.  As always, I changed things a bit to suit what I had on hand: I used All-Purpose Flour instead of bread flour and added 2 Tbsp of wheat bran, hoping to up the gluten levels. I used regular yeast instead of instant, proofing it with sugar (as per package directions) before adding it to the recipe.

And I served it with Roast Parsnip Soup, again altering the amounts of liquid to get a bit thicker consistency. My food pics are not the best, but these recipes are both winners and I wanted to share.

If you're cold, these two make a very pleasant lunch.
