1 of 12, Pay it Forward

1 of 12 is finished!

Still a bit wrinkly, but it's done! Oh, this is also a mainly UIU accomplishment...most of the fabric came from my stash and I've been wanting to use the pattern forEVer. :)

The whole reason I wanted to make this Asian-inspired costume my January project was that I was really intrigued by the Japanese Hari-Kuyo ceremony: the Festival of Broken Needles. It's an ancient tradition that happens annually on February 9th, where women lay their broken and bent needles to rest in tofu or something similarly soft and squooshy. (Here is a neat blog post.) As you might have guessed, I am not Buddhist. Nor do I share the animist belief that all objects have souls. But I like the idea of our needles "serving" us well. I did not particularly want to waste tofu, so I made a red vellum envelope in which to dispose of my pins and needles. At least now they won't poke through the bin liner and stab anybody!

I'll show more of the costume in tomorrow's TTMT.

Also, I'm posting my entry for the Pay it Forward Challenge here, because there's no way I'm going to be able to have a TTMT ready today!

I'm just going to submit the same idea that many other people have...keep this special copy of TFiOS in the TTMT community. If I were to win, once I read it I would hold another drawing in another TTMT to pass the book along to another member. I would consider donating it to my library, but Chicago Public Library does not accept book donations! (Apparently it costs more to categorise and barcode donated books than to purchase pre-coded books direct from the publishers.) So, all the better to keep it in the comm!

I think that's it for now... I am rearranging my February 2-of-12 to accommodate The Things I Am Sending Away. (Birthday Blocks, Fabric Postcards, Garden Party block design, etc.) and pushing PoD back to March. I have never in my life been this orderly and methodical about my craftiness! :D
