Japan Meme Day 21 and 22

Day 21 - Favorite and least favorite Japanese fashion trends.
I think most of the popular fashion trends in Japan is complete shit. You have girls who wear the absolute sluttiest things ever, like micro-mini skirts, or you have girls who wear jeans and then a skirt over them (I haven't seen this lately but 5 years ago it was rampant). My beef with the slutty shit is that while it does catch my eye -- I can't deny it doesn't -- I would never want my girlfriend to wear something like that, and I'm actually really happy she dresses sensibly. I also hope that if I have a daughter in the future that she doesn't dress like that either.

As for the guys, well... I don't know. I think most of them dress alright but I've seen more than a couple of guys wearing skirts around Osaka, which is totally fucked up. Or they have those big man bags that look more suitable on a girl than on a guy. I guess it goes with the whole herbivore thing that is rampant in the country.

I think what bothers me more than the what is the where, though. Back home people would sometimes go out without really caring about how they looked. Like if they were going to hit the gym, most wouldn't bother dressing up that much because they're going to get all hot and sweaty. But that doesn't happen here. If you're going out, you seemingly need to be dressed to the nines for some stupid reason. I see girls wearing pounds of make up at the gym, lifting up their oh-so-heavy 1 kilo dumbbells, and dressed in their designer tracksuits. Like, who the fuck are they trying to impress? They ain't impressing me, that's for sure. But then again I guess I'm not their ahem, target audience.

Day 22 - Your favorite Japanese saying or kotowaza (proverb).
I'm a fan of 七転八起, Nana Korobi Yao Ki, which refers to the ups and downs of life, and the idea of always getting up and dusting yourself off after repeated failures. I don't think this needs any further explanation...
