Katrina....New Orleans/Mississippi

Sep 03, 2005 09:28

It has been about a week since Katrina came and destroyed and unprepared city. A city that if a hurricane did come it would completely devestate it. A city where there were budget cutbacks for the leeves(sp) that ended up breaking and flooding the entire city. A city I have never been to. A city I will never be able to visit because it is lost. A city where people are dying everyday because of no electricity, water, food, sewer....all stuff we need to live in a civilized place. As our pre-historic ancestors never had these things and could live, the simple fact of the matter is that as we became more and more civilized, the more and more our population grew.

One of the most popular cities is gone. All the people who lived there are dying. All the sick in the hospital are worsening or even dead because they couldn't get the supplies they needed in time, like oxygen.

We have troops fighting a losing battle where most of the people don't want them there. The troops don't want to be there. We have our own devestation and poverty right in our backyards and what are we doing about it.

As a human being, a person who has a soul and can think, I hate it when people make promises they cannot keep. People are telling these devestated people who have lost everything that the busses are coming to get them, that relief is on the way, they will be rescued. All these people want is a hot meal and comfortable bed and clean clothes. A place to go to the bathroom and not shit in a corner! Think of the contamination that is around. All the diseases that are going to come if they aren't rescued.

As a holiday approaches, most stores are putting on their "amazing deals" and all I can think is how can people shop for unnecessary things when their are people, people they probably know in 6 degrees of seperation or less, who lost everything! Documentation, photos, clothes, homes, and all our petty entertainment goods.

I feel the need to go and help since officials are taking so fucking goddamn long. It is inhumane! It is just not New Orleans, it is Mississippi too! People who are fortunate enough to have their homes, but don't have electricity, food, water. An 81 year old woman who has diabetes is out of food. Is this a just way to die. We have our own "thrid world" country right here in the land of the free! People who put all their "faith" and trust into a country that is suppose to protect them if they are injured or endangered.

These people are human beings! Civilized people! People who can think and have a soul. People who have rights. People who are going to die like they meant nothing. People who are going to die a slow, agonizing death because our "fast food" nation is too damn slow to get over to these places and help. Where we have shipped, most of out protection overseas too stop an attack on the homeland. A homeland they are protecting from half a world away.

This just shows that as people we can't expect bad and everyone, when there is dangers that are unforeseen.

"How can we just help one when there are millions who need our help?"

Sometimes it just takes one.....
