Carl and the hospital, yet again

Jul 19, 2012 08:08

It's a good thing I check Facebok with decent frequency, as otherwise I wouldn't have known that Carl was having heart issues. He posted a vague message about attaching himself to his telemetry equipment, and having symptoms of atrial fibrillation. I called him up, and he said he would probably be going to the E.R.

Sure enough, he was admitted, and I got a vague text saying that he was going to be 'shocked." I asked for clarification and, indeed, they scheduled him to get multiple joules via a defibrillator. I can't say I wasn't worried about this, and admit that every time he's hospitalised I fear getting that phone call that something went horribly wrong. Can you blame me?

Carl is home now, resting, and was initially very weak (not having food or water for a period of time could do that!). The shock was successful, even if they did a bizarre job shaving his chest for the procedure (he has fur on the sides of his chest, but not in the middle, making this awkward W). He says he doesn't remember any of the shock, which ... admittedly amazes me, considering ...

hospital, carl
