[Eurovision] Semifinal 2, or: All My Faves Eliminated

Another semifinal aired tonight, and the results weren't exactly surprising ... just disappointing.

This was my fave song in this second semifinal, full stop, and it was one of many to not make the cut. This, Cyprus, The Netherlands ... all good songs, all left behind. There's Israel too, but the moment I heard Dana International butcher her own song and slaughter the melody vocally, I knew she wouldn't qualify.

Interestingly enough, NONE of the songs that went through feature any language other than English. While the first semi offered one song in Serbian, one partially in Hungarian, and another mostly in Greek, every song in this semifinal was English. This leads more credence to the belief that any language other than English kills your chances at success. It should be noted, of course, that along with the three songs NOT in English in semifinal 2 (Cyprus, Bulgaria, and FYR Macedonia), the other seven songs were purely English.

This makes me wonder: will the pendulum swing the other way if France wins? France's entry -- automatically qualified for the final -- is sung in Corsican. And this song, despite being a bolero, is a hot favourite to win.
